This historic cottage is located in the midst of popular de Waterkant district. The city center and the Waterfront are within easy reach. The cottage has been restored in keeping with its character and lovingly furnished with items old and new.

The space

You have access to a one bedroom cottage located in a secure, gated lane.

The cottage was build by the workers constructing Cape Town Harbor some 150 years ago and housed them at the time. The cottage has been lovingly renovated, while maintaining its original character and furnished with items old and new.
There is an inviting patio where you can relax outside.

Guest access

There is a 24/7 property manager on call for all emergencies.

There is a pre-paid wifi dongle, for which you need to purchase data with Vodafone as required. There are typically 30MB preloaded. Vodafone data packages with are available as "once off" packages ranging from R 12 for 30 MB to R 299 for 3GB.

Interaction with guests

I will communicate with you via e-mail as I do not live in Cape Town permanently.

I have a property manager looking after the property for me who will meet you and show you around the property.

You may be ask to sign a registration form and provide a copy of your ID as well as a credit card print as a security deposit to cover damages, if any.

Other things to note

This cottage is my holiday home and has been furnished with love. Please treat it gently and respectfully. It also helps the next person find things if you return items to their place.

The cottage has wifi. It is a pay as you go solution. You can buy data packages / airtime for what you need at Vodafone and top up the wifi.

Given guests have refused to provide a credit card imprint as security I am now in addition asking everyone to pay EUR 500 to airbnb as deposit. This will be released within 48 hours after your stay if no claims are registered with airbnb. As you can appreciate EUR 500 does not cover a fraction of what damages there could be.

Margarete responded to my inquiries immediately. She answered questions that I had about things to do and made recommendations of places to relax and get a good meal. A situation arose that caused my arrival and departure dates to change by one day and Margarete was very accommodating. There were a number of visitors' pamphlets and local maps at the house. Margarete also sent me her personal contact information in case of any problems.

Travelling with two little kids, the cottage was very well located in Cape Town, we felt very safe in the quiet neighbourhood, car parking was easy, the V&A waterfront just 15min away. Spar supermarket 5-10min by foot away. great starting position for exploring by car both central Cape Town and the greater CApe Town area like Cape of Good Hope, Constantia Valley... the cottage was perfect for our needs with all the machines ready to use (especially useful: washing machine and dishwasher). handling with a local property manager was perfect. summary: great place to stay, would definitely come again. thank you!

Our arrival wasn't what we expected. The house wasn't cleaned and all the laundry was hanging on furniture in the room. It was obvious the cleaners had been to quickly on X-mas evening. The bedlinnen wasn't clean either. So the property manager let another cleaning lady come within 2 hours and she cleaned the house and made up the bed etc. After that, all was fine. They even cleaned the house 2 more times that week, I think it was an extra. After the last cleaning round we found 4 huge cockroaches waiting for us on the floor of the house, something I assume is normal in this area of Cape Town and in these kind of houses, but it wasn't really nice after our bad start. Internet/wifi: it is really difficult to find out how it works and how to get it started All in all: the house is cosy and private, a bit old furnished but that has it's charme. Bed is fine. The kitchen is fully supplied and there is a very nice bathroom. Cleaning could be better.

Response from Margarete:
Thank you Martin for your feedback. I will most certainly share this with the property manager, whom I am paying for this not to happen and to explain everything, including how the wifi works. I am very sorry for this experience, this of course shouldn't happen seeing I am paying them to ensure all is neat and tidy when guests arrive. They charge me for cleaning as well as the laundry service, so this is not on. Truly sorry.

A charming and perfect cottage in De Waterkant, close to both the city centre and V&A Waterfont. I stayed for a week and would highly recommend. But to help make your stay even more comfortable, here's a couple of hints: - Wifi is actually 3G speed and it costs R149 for 1GB of internet from Vodacom. This was enough for 5 days low use. Origin Coffee Shop on Hudson had the best local wifi I found. - There is a property management company that helps look after the house. Look out for a South African phone number calling you a few days before to re-confirm check-in time. And give as much notice as possible if you need a late (after 10am) check out. - Look up what 'load shedding' is and when it may be in effect in Cape Town, don't panic and keep the house torch handy!

Peaceful place in a great and cosy neighborhood. We and our kids had a really lovely time there, conveniently located next to a very good shopping centre.

Cape Town is one of my favorit cities in the world and I spend six years there; finishing my school and my university education. Sadly I can libve there and be gainfully employed. So I have a home that I visit when time permits and which I share with guests. I love it dearly and hope my guests will enjoy it too; treating it with care and respect.

I enjoy life at the beach, good food, wine and lovely weather; all of which Cape Town has on offer.
