I stayed here for a bachelor party weekend and had a blast! One of the common themes I saw in negative reviews referenced the neighborhood itself. I never saw anything that warranted those reviews, personally. Sure, there's an abandoned warehouse a few blocks away that's seen better days... but virtually ever part of New Orleans still bears Katrina's scars. The neighborhood feels like most semi-urban working class neighborhoods - ethnically diverse, many families, and a mix of older and newly-updated homes. There are some pretty great bars in the area (Bayou Beer Garden FTW!) that have a much more local feel than anything in Marigny or The Quarter. My group of five guys never felt unsafe or uncomfortable. FWIW, I thought to myself a few times on the trip that I could see myself living in that area. The house itself was a great home base for exploring. It's pretty modest, with bunk beds, futons, and a small kitchen. We ended up moving the kitchen chairs around the house when we were hanging out in the same room. There's no TV, but there's no reason to be watching TV on vacation! The top bunks did sway around a bit, but we shoved a few pillows between the bed and the wall and this helped a lot. Alex as a host was fantastic. He was willing to work with me as my travel plans changed, and was very quick to respond when I let him know of a maintenance issue. On the Saturday of our trip, we got caught out on the roads when flooding started in Mid-City. Virtually every road was impassible so I gave up and headed to higher ground (which only coincidentally had many, many, many bars.) I texted Alex to check in on the roads at about 11:00 and got a very quick response. Just having a bit of an idea on what we'd be up against when we headed back made a big difference on our night. All things considered, when I return to New Orleans in the future I'll be staying in one of Alex's places. I loved the neighborhood, the house, and the host. Great experience all the way around!

This place was exactly what our little group of 4 was looking for! We caught a car to Frenchman from the house for not very much money, and walked to brunch the next morning. Location was good and the house had everything we needed. It was great to have a back yard space to chill in.
