Our place is a beautiful, modern home constructed with traditional style in the heart of historic Patan. We live here and love it. Since we're traveling, you get a chance to share the magic!
The house is fully outfitted with modern amenities, a stocked kitchen, and everything else you need to live comfortably. Unlike most listings in Patan it's a full apartment and spacious.
This is the perfect house for travelers who want a stylish, well-equipped and independent setup in a great location.
Our apartment is modern in setup but fronts onto a traditional courtyard and temple where the community gathers every day. Come here to live well but feel part of the city and see it at work. We're decorated in the traditional Newar style and our landlord is something of an authority on local culture.
The house is part of a courtyard compound owned and lived in by our landlord's family. You'll have the run of the apartment, but full access to the the family for anything you need.
Kutumba, one of the biggest traditional music bands in Nepal, regularly practices in the downstairs courtyard. If you stay here a while you'll probably get treated to a free concert! Feel free to peak in.
Guests have access to a common roof terrace (w/ kitchenette), a downstairs courtyard and motorcycle / bike parking downstairs.
Because we live here some of the closets and drawers will be full, but we'll make suitable room for you.
Other things to note
The neighborhood is not only historic, it is very alive. That means our neighbors start knocking about at 5-6 AM! The house is excellently lit because it faces South out onto a public square, but the upshot is you hear the sounds of pooja bells ringing, the water pump running and the pressure cookers steaming in the morning. Light sleepers be warned. On the plus side, watching life go by in the square is one of the simpler pleasures of the apartment.
Because Kathmandu is rebuilding after a huge earthquake you will definitely hear some construction noises throughout the day, though it's never too loud or distracting. Please note this noisiness is typical of every house in Patan where the house doesn't face an inner courtyard.
- Please smoke outside!
- If you want to have a gathering that's fine, but it should be kept inside after 11 PM to avoid disturbing our neighbors
- No shoes in the house
If you're staying here, it means we're away! So you'll be interacting with our very friendly landlord and his family. They speak English and may invite you to dhal baat or a cup of raksi (traditional liquor) if you're lucky.
We're always available via AirBnB, phone or email and will make sure you're well setup.
Originally from Atlanta, now settled in Kathmandu. I dig hiking / camping, riding my motorcycle and learning Dutch / Nepali. Plenty of travel left in me.
I love all kinds of AirBnBs, but my favorites are those where I got to know my host/guest.
