About this listing

The treehouse is the only option for the real adventure traveller looking for a romantic get away in the Belizean Jungle. It is one of seven licensed accommodation units at our remotely located lodge: Martz farm Treehouses and cabanas ltd nestled in to the foothills of the Maya Mountains in the far west of Belize

The space

This treehouse is uniquely placed over a waterfall and provides a great family or honeymoon getaway! There is no electricity, but it is a perfect romantic night in the jungle with candle light! The treehouse comfortably sleeps 4 people in two beds. Prices are based on double occupancy and each additional adult pays USD15 per night. The treehouse is part of our lodge. Please also look for our website: Martz Farm Belize for additional info on meals, tours and shuttles

Guest access

Guests have access to all services provided at the lodge (meals, tour desk, Wifi, laundry). The lodge is located 8.5 miles from the closest town: Benque Viejo del Carmen. Public transport is not available on this road. You can book shuttle services at the lodge. Taxis will come up our road, but prices vary widely, since there are no fixed rates here. This listing is not suitable for infants or small children, but you can check out our family units with porch, which we specifically designed for families with children.

Interaction with guests

It is our pleasure to be your hosts. Our vibrant family of 5 and our extended family are always around to answer your questions and to arrange your day trips.

Other things to note

Because of its location above the waterfall, there is no plumbing for the treehouse. Bathrooms and showers are about 20 paces from the house and there is no electricity in the treehouse. Other accommodations, also available at the lodge, have electricity and bathrooms ensuite. If you are renting a vehicle please make sure it is a 4x4, and make sure you have driving directions in hand. The last 8 miles are not paved and can take up to 45 minutes. I highly recommend you try to get here before it gets dark (i.e. not after 6pm) because it is tricky to get your bearings in the dark. We do, however, accept late check ins as well. If you are catching bus and taxi, please beware that there are no fixed rates and drivers can be a bit reluctant to come to our remote location, especially at night. If you are flying in during the course of the afternoon to Belize city, I recommend you get the shuttle to pick you up, but this is optional. If you are a confident driver you will be ok navigating our unpaved road.

This treehouse is absolutely amazing! It is situated on a private family farm, and Miriam and Joe are the perfect hosts. I highly recommend the all day horseback ride. Not only do you get to ride through the jungle, but Joe really knows his stuff and also takes you through a local cave. The Cave is massive and has a lot of history.

The farm is beautiful and Miriam, Jose and their delightful kids were welcoming and fun hosts. The four affectionate dogs, the horses, hens and chicks and the kitten were a bonus :-) Miriam gave us lots of useful tips for travel around Belize and across the border to Guatemala and her husband Jose recited his poetry while showing us constellations on a clear night. We are still talking about the yummy meals we had while there. The treehouse itself is beautifully appointed, with a waterfall right by it, reachable with a ladder. The best rest we had in a long time! It is a magical place and we were sad to leave.

We had a great time staying in the treehouse at Martz farms! The treehouse doesn't have any walls, but it's tucked away in the trees making it private, but it took a little while to get used to. Being in the jungle and in the trees means that it's very humid and sticky at night with not much for a breeze. But we loved the sound of the waterfall at night, and having our own little building to stay in. While we were there we went on the pontoon boat ride and got to see a couple really beautiful waterfalls. We also went horseback riding with Joe to see a cave that had been used by the Mayans. Joe was very knowledgeable, and the horses were very well trained. The food there was great! We took the bus and taxis there from Belize City, but decided we wanted to hire a taxi to take us back for a more comfortable ride and so we would have the chance to stop and see Xunantunich. Miriam was very helpful in setting that up for us. Overall, we had a fantastic time.

I had a great time at Miriam and Joe's treehouse and I will be trying to find friends to go back with. It is not for everyone, but it is a magical place. The treehouse itself is built into a hill with a bridge over to it and a creek with waterfall running underneath it. I was there for some serious storms and the palm leave roof kept me dry and cozy throughout. Reading by candlelight in a jungle treehouse with the sound of a waterfall just a few feet away was simply amazing. The farm itself is set in a valley with rain forested mountains all around, horses and chickens, dogs and kittens all over the place. Would be a wonderland for kids and a great place to just relax in a natural setting. The area has many commercial outings and I already had my heart set on a few which I went on (assisted by Miriam), but in my next trip I hope to spend more time on the farm / in the area riding horses with Joe and relaxing. This would save a lot on transportation time and would be my recommendation as their place is a ways out into the mountains. Also one should note that it's a tree house, with no walls, so you see some occasional insects in the place. But there's bug nets over the bed and at no time was I uncomfortable, and I believe they have more traditional rooms if that's what you're after. If you're interested in really getting out and seeing the real Belize, especially with kids, I highly recommend checking this place out.

I would recommend this property to anyone without hesitation! Miriam and Joe were the perfect hosts, the treehouse was spectacular, and the location is amazing! We stayed two nights, but wish we could have stayed longer. Nestled in the heart of the jungle, the treehouse provided the ideal way for us to experience the sounds and sights of the rain forest while still enjoying the comforts of a soft bed and shelter. At night, fireflies flickered around the treehouse while we listened to the sounds of the rain forest. Miriam worked hard to accent the place with beautiful local flowers, lit candles, and mosquito netting to cover the bed at night (which we ended up not needing because there were no mosquitoes when we visited in June!) Each morning and night, Miriam cooked up a delicious meal for everyone, and we ate family style while we exchanged stories and chatted about the day's exciting events. We decided to take the ATM cave tour at the last minute, and as soon as we told Miriam, she got on the phone and booked it within minutes. We are so glad Miriam was able to book it so quickly for us, because it was such an incredible experience! The farm on which the treehouse is located is gorgeous, lots of friendly animals everywhere, and tons of room to roam around. Joe took us on a horseback trail ride on our last morning there. He shared some of his poems with us, reciting them while we overlooked a breathtaking vista. Throughout the ride, he pointed out local flora and fauna, explained the history of the area, and was an overall excellent tour guide! If you decide to stay, don't miss the horse ride with Joe! We had never gone on a long ride like this, but Joe made us feel very comfortable by providing support and directions as we needed it. Do yourself a favor and stay in the treehouse and enjoy the jungle life with Miriam and Joe- you won't regret it!

Our stay at Martz Farms was amazing! Both Miriam an Joe were extremely kind, accommodating, and made us feel very welcome at their home! Their kids were fabulous as well! They helped us set up a great trip to ATM and fed us until we were stuffed. This was one of the best AirBNB experiences we've had. The treehouse was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone. We were only upset that we weren't staying another day so that we could have done some horseback riding!

The Martz family and farm was a magical experience to say the very least. Communicating with Miriam prior to our arrival was quite informative as I had 1000 questions about both our stay on the farm and exploring other parts of Belize. We arranged to be picked up at the airport and met Joe to begin our drive to the jungle which consisted of a 2ish hour journey, learning the ins and outs of every tree we encountered, and serval stops to purchase snacks along the way. We realized instantly we felt like we were home. We arrived at the farm after the sun had set so didn't get to experience the farm's true beauty until the following morning. We sat on the open porch listening to the sweet sounds of the jungle with a cold beer - does life get any better? Yes, yes it does. Our first morning after staying in the treehouse and falling asleep to the sounds of a water fall, occasional insects chirping, and a friendly dog who slept underneath my bed during our trip included home made breakfast, hot coffee, and even better conversation. We journeyed a short distance to hang out on a Pontoon boat and explore waterfalls. The sun, sights, and company made this an incredible first day. Day two we decided to horseback ride through the jungle and visit a Mayan ruin. The remarkable part about all of this is that each person was knowledgeable about the history of the land, the animals, and even the tiniest of birds. I will hold this experience close to my heart for many years to come. This is certainly the place for you if you seek adventure, culture, outdoorsy activities, and a family that has built what most of us can only dream of - a place with our own two hands.
