Walk around a flagstone path to your own entry to this newly refinished bedroom (queen) & full bath suite - spacious room looks out to yard, salt marsh, & tidal river, slate hallway to own private bath & shower; own keypad access from the outside, separated from upstairs inside. Enjoy backyard & dock, maybe launch a kayak. A few minutes from Kittery Outlets & York Hospital; in good traffic 10 minutes to York beaches. Perfect for vacationers, also great for folks doing rotations or similar work.

The space

This is a special spot on the tidal York River. You can see the tide move in and out from your room, read in the old rocker, work at the desk (with internet connection), watch the birds and wildlife in the yard... the room is bright and has totally separate access. You can sit right outside your door and watch the for high and low tide or walk down to the dock and enjoy your morning coffee (or evening drink!).

Guest access

Guest space is totally separated from the rest of the house. But while staying with us you’re welcome to use the large kitchen if you wish; just keep in mind that it is a shared space and must be kept clean. You're also welcome to make use of the large backyard and the dock on the river. We also have a kayak you can borrow if you'd like to go for a paddle up the river.

Interaction with guests

We are sometimes around during the days and often in the evening, and enjoy meeting new people - but also think it's important to let guests enjoy their own space. If not at home, just a text or phone call away if you have any questions. Happy to tell you about our favorite things to eat, see and do in the area - York is a classic Maine historic village, and York & neighboring Kittery have many beautiful places to walk and some truly great restaurants.

Other things to note

Queen bed, small fridge & microwave, plus supplies for coffee/tea in your room. TV, internet connection, place to read, rest, or work watching the bluebirds, hummingbirds and finches, and an occasional heron (ok we are not promising all, but they are often here.)

Sarah is a most gracious and generous hostess. She was helpful and made changes to meet our specific needs. We were appreciative of her comfortable and clean home. The wifi was great and the tea was excellent.

Response from Sarah:
Just a quick note about locks, there were and are locks on the outside entrance to the private downstairs rooms, plus a lock on the bedroom doors both upstairs and downstairs, locks on bathroom doors too. The private-entrance rooms are entirely newly re-done this summer, new shares, new paint, new ceiling tiles, new bed, new linens, new hardwood floors, etc.

Sarah was an absolutely amazing host and the house was perfect for our little weekend getaway. She was so kind and was very open to us using her kitchen space, as we love to cook. The downstairs where we stayed was private, quiet, and very welcoming, with lots of little bonus's that made our time there that much better (coffee/tea makers in room, Roku tv, silverware, refrigerator etc), and the views were so perfect and serene! We had such a great time and can't wait to come back!!

This was a nice place to relax. Very peaceful looking out to the river. Our host is friendly and very easy to deal with. The room was clean and the bathroom was also clean. An easy drive to the beach and grocery store. Watch the deer and birds from your window. If you want hustle and bustle, don't go here. If you want peace and quiet this is the place to go. GF says especially if you are an artist.

This was an ideal location for us, close to Ogunquit and Kittery, but far enough away to afford a quiet night's sleep. The room was attractive, the bed was very comfortable, and Sarah's attention to detail was impressive. We had a bird feeder out the window, a view of the water and trees, and we even saw deer outside in the wee hours. Breakfast is not provided, but all the necessary equipment to make your own: fridge, microwave, coffee maker all in great condition. We would stay again!

Sarah is the sweetest. The "suite" is lovely. Necessary to have a car while there (of course, it's Maine). I highly recommend staying and plan on returning!

I was looking for a comfortable stay near York Hospital while on rotation and I found it here! Plus I had my own private bath, mini fridge, microwave, and tea kettle which made it my own little home away from home. A huge bonus was the gorgeous views of York River and a sun filled room. Sarah was wonderful, we had great conversation and I recommend this to anyone wanting a room that has it all.

My son Alex and his wife Hillary hosted airbnb at this location last year and got their mother hooked on trying it. They are young farmers and are around part of each week delivering their CSA (community supported agriculture) shares, so folks might still see them, or my daughter Althea, a radical chef! I'm considerably less interesting -- a mostly-retired law professor, now a farmer's wife (we have a vegetable farm in Newport Maine). I just finished editing and publishing a book with the American Bar Association on implicit bias, so my work life is a bit two-sided, part farmer's wife, part author. Beyond all this, I'd say my other interests are in cooking (well, we do grow all those vegetables) and reading, mostly mysteries, totally for escape.
