In the heart of Constable Country, on the Essex Way, nestled amongst farmers’ fields, stables and woodland you will find The Duck House.
The Duck House provides a rural get away. 5 minutes from an A12 link, 10 minutes from Colchester town and less than an hour from London. There are two pubs, a shop and a wine centre all with a 10-15 minute walk. Great for walks and enjoying the outdoors or just lazing in a 40C hot tub under the stars.

The space
The Duck House is cosy, comfortable double glazed air-conditioned static unit with two bedrooms. It also has a hot tub for private enjoyment. The sofa in the lounge also converts to a double bed. It sits in an exclusive paddock surrounded by fields and woods. It is a haven for wildlife. Useage of a private fishing lake on the adjacent farm can be arranged with prior notice.

We have a Netflix account logged in, free of charge, provided for our holiday lodges.

No parties allowed or groups over 4 guests. Music must be kept to a minimum as we have animals/other guests staying on the farm grounds. This will not be tolerated and action will be taken.

Guest access
The Duck House is on ‘Blackbrook Stud Farm’ and has two entrances. First is from Ivy Lodge road (CO6 4EN), between the hours of 8am and 10pm you can press the green button on the gate to open. After this time, you will need to use the remote control on the key, simply slide cover back and press either A or B on fob. The second entrance, is in front of our pink thatched cottage. This leads onto Lincoln Lane (CO6 4HJ) via a field gate. Please feel free to use either entrance and remember to close the gates behind you to prevent the horses and Alpacas from wandering off. The ‘Yew Tree’ pub and restaurant is only a 10 minute walk from this entrance down a beautiful lane. The Duck House has its own entrance and car parking area for up to 4 cars.

Other things to note
We recommend you bring an extra towel as we provide one large towel per guest.
If you are staying for an occasion (birthday, anniversary etc) we can arrange for a cake of choice to be made/personalised and ready for your arrival. Please message us regarding this service once booking is confirmed.
This is a complete rural retreat for guests who want to get away and experience the countryside. Fantastic for nature and walking being surrounded by land. Without light pollution, on a clear night the stars can be seen clearly. A fishing lake is available in the adjacent farm.
The Duck House is fully equipped for all your needs. The kitchen is complete with fridge/freezer, hob, microwave oven, electric kettle and toaster. Full sets of crockery, cutlery, glasses and cooking utensils are provided to cover all your needs.
All towels and linen supplied.
We are ideally located being only minutes away by car from Colchester.
There is a resident tabby female cat called Diesel who has adopted the farm as her home. Her main job is catching mice in the stables but she likes the warmth of the decking surrounding the Duckhouse, so you will no doubt see her.
A warning to anyone allergic to cats, she will come in if you leave your door open. She is very friendly. We leave pouches of cat food in the Duckhouse if guests feel they would like to put some extra in her bowl on the decking.

Please DO NOT wear fake tan if you are planning to use the hot tub during your stay. We understand this is Essex and we love looking glamorous and sun kissed, but the hot tubs will be damaged. If the water is discoloured/green after your stay, you will be charged £80 for the inconvenience caused and for the hot tub to be professionally cleaned. Thank you for your understanding.
