The space

The apartment is decorated with both traditional and contemporary Tibetan antique furniture and Tibetan carpets. Some of the furniture and carpets date back to late 18th century which my grand parents had purchased way back when they used to barter salt for other goods in Tibet-Nepal border.

- Meaning behind the Tibetan Dragon:
Dragons have been part of Chinese culture for at least 7,000 years. In China, dragons have long symbolized power, creativity, heaven, and good fortune. They are thought to have authority over bodies of water, rain, floods, and storms.
In time, Chinese Buddhist artists adopted the dragon as a symbol of enlightenment. Today dragons decorate roofs and gates of temples, both as guardians and to symbolize the dragon's power of clarity. Buddhist dragons often are depicted holding a mani jewel, which represents the Buddha's teaching.

• ROOM 2 - The Tibetan Lotus Room

- The room comes with a Queen bed, shared bathroom with one room, light breakfast included.
- Its a very cozy room.
- The floors are hardwood parqueted.
- The room is very bright, clean and new.
- Meaning behind Tibetan Lotus:
Lotuses are symbols of purity and 'spontaneous' generation and hence symbolize divine birth. According to the Lalitavistara, 'the spirit of the best of men is spotless, like the new lotus in the muddy water which does not adhere to it', and, according to esoteric Buddhism, the heart of the beings is like an unopened lotus: when the virtues of the Buddha develop therein the lotus blossoms. This is why the Buddha sits on a lotus in bloom.
- Red lotus symbolizes the original nature of the heart. It is the lotus of love, compassion, passion, activity and all the qualities of the heart.
- Blue lotus is the symbol of the victory of the spirit over the senses, of intelligence and wisdom, of knowledge.

• ROOM 3 - The Harmonious Friends Room - Twin Room

- The room comes with two single beds, shared bathroom with one room, light breakfast provided everyday.
- The room has a panoramic view of the hills, plenty of space and natural light.
- The floors are hardwood parqueted.
- The room is very bright, clean and new.
- The meaning behind the Harmonious Friends Theme :
The 4 Harmonious Friends is often painted to adorn thangkas, door curtains, tables, vessels and walls of Buddhist temples and homes. It is believed that wherever this picture is displayed, the wholesome deeds of its beholders and the harmony among them will increase, making much auspiciousness available. There will be no discord or separation between family and friends too, as the picture is a powerful reminder of how we should stay together to help one another. As we all have varying strengths and weaknesses, we can complement one another to accomplish that which we could never achieve alone.

I stayed here during my visit in Nepal. We had booked three rooms at Karma suites as I had few friends with me too. This place is very pleasant and felt like I was in a retreat, the direct Swoyambhu Stupa view from the room aswell as the balcony is a blissful blessing. The Tibetan furnitures make this place even better. Breakfast was very light and simple, how we liked it. We used to eat lunch and dinner outside as there are cafes and restaurants around the area. You can also order food to your room from various restaurants too, the host is very helpful in organizing it. Amazing place and wholesome experience.

It was my second time staying at Rahul's place. I had booked his place a week ago before we had planned to leave for Pokhara. Like my first experience, the place was very clean, comfortable and beautiful!!! Loved the Tibetan decor theme. The mattress is very comfy too. The rooms have ample natural light and are brand new clean! There is free cleaning thrice a week. The free breakfast provided is very healthy and enough. The place is about 15 minutes drive from Thamel, where we used to hangout every day. (I reckon Swayambhu area is better to stay and Thamel to chill, as Thamel is too noisy at night). This Place is amazing and would love to stay here again and again!

Hi Travelers!

I am Rahul Gurung, an avid traveler from the Himalayas. I was born in Kathmandu, Nepal but have been travelling the world, experiencing new cultures and meeting people from all walks of life.

I was living in New Delhi for sometime where I completed my Bachelor's in Business Administration and then moved to Gold Coast, Australia to pursue my Master's of Business Degree.
While in Australia, I had the opportunity to work at the World's first fashion hotel Palazzo Versace, a 6 star property where I gained experiences in Hospitality, Marketing & Management.

After almost 3 years in Australia, I decided to return back to my beautiful country and pursue a more challenging route to entrepreneurship. One of the ventures that I have started is a Tibetan themed Air-BnB in Kathmandu, Nepal known as 'Karma Suites'.

It is a calm, quiet, traditional yet modern oasis away from the hustle-and-bustle of Thamel. (10 mins drive from my place). Spacious, bright, spotless and full of natural light.
I would see my place as the best kept secret in Kathmandu, Nepal as it is directly looking at the Swayambhu Nath Stupa 'Monkey Temple' and furnished with all different tibetan furniture and rare antiques.

I run a BnB business so that I get to meet the global citizens of the world and to travel to new places because I believe the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.
