The space

Enjoy your stay at Maxfield's, a turn of the century vintage home in Ashland, Oregon. Built in 1903, Maxfield's is a charming Victorian home in Ashland's historic district. Features include fir floors, oriental rugs and period inspired furniture. The name is inspired by the artist Maxfield Parrish. Some of his artwork is fondly displayed here. Located just a few minutes walk from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival theaters and the heart of downtown, you will be close to all of the fine restaurants, bakeries, coffee houses and specialty shops that historic Ashland offers. Don't miss our beautiful Lithia Park! Groceries, wine & beer, and fresh pastries can be found almost next door.

This turn of the century classic features period details throughout. It has two levels and sleeps a maximum of eight. There are 3 queen size beds and 2 twins. The twins can be put together and converted into a king.

The lower level, main floor has about 1200 square feet. and includes a parlor and drawing room, fully equipped kitchen, dining room, master bedroom and bath plus another half bath and laundry off the kitchen. There is a queen sleeper sofa in the cozy drawing room which can be made very private. There are two covered porches, one in front, one in the rear, both with white wicker furniture. Each overlooks a small cottage garden.

A classic entry with wooden stairs and balustrade leads to the upper level which has two bedrooms featuring dormer windows and sloping ceilings. Between them is a full bath. One bedroom has a queen bed, the other has a trundle bed (2 twins). The twins can be put together to make into a King.

Guest access

The house features a fully equipped kitchen, BBQ, televisions, DVD, CD stereo, WiFi, video and book libraries, laundry, central air conditioning, steam/jet tub/shower, 2 covered porches and more.

Interaction with guests

The City of Ashland requires that the proprietor of licensed "traveler accommodations" such as Maxfield's reside on the property. I live in a separate apartment. I prefer to give my guests maximum privacy so you probably won't see much of me but I am around if you have questions or need my help in any way.

Our family loved staying "In the Heart of Ashland". This home had everything- was cool, quiet, comfortable, and beautifully furnished. We used the den as a fourth bedroom- it was very private. With games, movies, and an easy walk to plays and downtown, this was an ideal family vacation. Parking off street, with a neighborhood grocery right next door we were able to easily have breakfast at home on the front porch. Steve's collection of Victorian pieces throughout the house added to the charm!

The house was beautifully prepared for us to stay there. Extra sets of keys, kitchen ready to use, and a really nice overall atmosphere. The house was very close to downtown and easy access to everything. We come to Ashland often to visit family and would definitely look into staying here again.

The house is a charming Victorian and well appointed, with modern appliances. The house is really only a 10 minute walk to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) theaters - and that is on 65 year old legs. As long time OSF members, this was a different approach to staying in Ashland. We needed to try a new housing arrangement with our children now having their own families and having moved away. The host was not around during our stay - which was fine. Oh - finding the parking in the back is a little tricky - so strictly follow Mr. Larson's directions. This is more of a home available for rent and not a shared home. The owner has an apartment in the basement. As such there are different expectations on what we were supposed to do and then clean up at the end of the stay. All of which was absolutely fine with us. My wife is actually considering making this an annual family get together. We had a great time.

I'm older now and have done some traveling over the last 14 years or so. I like art and architecture, theatre, wine and the great outdoors. Ashland seemed to have it all. I came here in 2002 and did some work for my mother to bring this house up to the level of charm it deserved. When she no longer could live here it made sense to offer it for others to enjoy. I have just listed my property here but if you would like to read some reviews go to Vacation Rental By Owner listing #302211
