The space
Everything is new inside the 1958 Airstream Land Yacht. The private bathroom is a few steps off the front patio with a shower, toilet, sink & heater. Internet service and wifi calling installed at bungalow on April 2020. The new queen-sized pillow top bed is very comfortable. Cook top stove, internet & wifi, mid-sized fridge, coffee maker, toaster, micro-wave, dishes and cooking utensils. It has a new AC & heater, TV & Blue Ray DVD player and a selection of movies. The washer/dryer Please look at photo's so you will know it's the old fashion way of doing laundry. There's a covered patio connected to the front of the Airstream, with outside barbecue and table and chairs and outside heater for the cooler nights. Dine inside the Airstream or out. It's fully furnished with bedding and towels and all the amenities one needs.
The Airstream and bathroom are tucked into the red rocks under one of the oldest Juniper trees recorded. It has a very private backyard area with a hammock, table, benches and umbrella in a very natural setting. This is a hiker's paradise with miles of hiking trails into the Canyon of the Ancients National Monument right off your bungalow. There is a tipi we own in the main canyon on a beautiful overlook. If available you are welcome to use the tipi. You would need sleeping bags and pads if you wanted to venture out for a night under the stars. It's about a 25 minute hike from the bungalow.
There's mountain biking at Sand Canyon or Phil's World nearby. SORRY, NO PETS.

Guest access
There are many canyons and side canyons and a year-round creek with a variety of trees, wild flowers, cacti, birds, animals and trails you have access to. There is a horse trail on the property and a wonderful dry wash to hike that will take you into many side canyons. During the monsoons, there are wonderful waterfalls cascading off the cliffs and spectacular lightning storms that roll through in the summer. If you like climbing, the red rocks have many areas to discover and alcoves with thousand plus year old ruins. I am also a site monitor for 8 ruins in the backcountry that is accessed from our property. This is an area that is protected from public access but your stay here will give you that access.
I have an agreement with the others involved here in the community that in order for me to host Airbnb I can’t have dogs. The community is a protected Wildlife Preserve which adjoins “Canyon of the Ancients National Monument.” All of us living here don’t have pets for that reason. We also keep the cabin/bungalow allergy & dander free for our guests and the person that cleans who is highly allergic to dander.
If you need help in finding another place close by that takes pets I would be happy to check a few places.

Other things to note
BEWARE: YOU MAY WISHED YOU STAYED LONGER!
Please check out "GUIDEBOOK" under this listing for many things to do ahead of time to help you plan & prepare your trip. I've listed many options that may help you if you haven't been to the area. There is also a pocket guide book in bungalow for hikes into the "Canyons of the Ancients National Monument" which is part of our private ranch. It's a good start to get you into some beautiful areas right from your front door with miles of private trails to explore.

It's a great part of the area that you don't see elsewhere. It has the Ute Mountain that you view from your bungalow (10,000 ft.). You are in the high red rock desert (5600ft) with pinions and old juniper trees that are estimated over 900 years old. There is an historic cemetery in the canyon you hike to. The original road was washed-out along with homes in 1911. The old road used to be near the bungalow. There are archeologists excavating on the property's Anasazi ruins that date back thousands of years ago. McElmo Canyon was known for its produce and took 1st place for peaches in the Saint Louis World's Fair in the 1910's.

Originally from San Diego I now live in the 4 corners area for the last 20 years in beautiful McElmo Canyon. I Love exploring, hiking, riding and the outdoors. Me and my partner Steve have created a safe haven here for animals in the wild and don't allow hunting. We have an organic garden that is shared with the community here and we live in harmony with the land that surrounds us. I am grateful & blessed everyday to live here and share this part of the world with others. I'm fortunate enough to be a steward of this magical place. Mark

During your stay
I put together a small pocket guide book in the Bungalow that you can take with you on your hikes. It has photo's to help you navigate into the many miles of private trails & canyons. It will get you started and then its up to you to discover the many other side canyons and ruins beyond the guide book.
If available I can show you the canyon trails and get you started. There may be someone to take you on a loop and give you an overview and from there you can go deeper into the canyons and surrounding area.
I prefer guests that are comfortable in nature or wanting to discover that part of themselves.
