Our home is perfect for young families. It's light and cosy with a lovely garden backing straight into the woods. A big green at the front for children to play on, kids are in paradise here! 10 mins from Totnes, the river Dart and Dartmoor.

The space

The houses on Huxham's Cross were built for the workers on Dartington Estate in the early part of last century. Our home is only a walk away to Dartington Hall through beautiful woods. Go through the same woods to swim in the river, cycle down to Totnes (and discover a high street and market bustling with energy) or enjoy a coffee in the cool Staverton nursery cafe. We're also a walk away from the steam train which takes you to the Otter and Butterfly Sanctuary in Buckfastleigh and the Rare Breeds Farm in Totnes. Both great days out for the family. If you feel like staying at home there's a big garden to relax in, with a large trampoline, a slide and a hammock for those lazy days in the sun. You'll be bathed in birdsong as well as sunshine.

The cabin at the end of the garden is private and can not be used during your stay.

Guest access

You'll have access to full wifi connection in the house. We do not own a TV so please make sure you bring a laptop or ipad if you would like to watch things. There is one kingsize bedroom, one single or twin bedroom (depending on what is required) and one childrens bedroom ( with a small child's bed). We have lots of musical instruments to share: a piano, keyboard, guitar, drums, lots of percussion, and plenty of toys for smaller children, including an all time favourite- a lovely wooden rocking horse. There's also plenty of books to choose from if you fancy snuggling up on the couch for a quiet night in. The bathroom is a bit old school with only a bath, sink and toilet - no shower. But there is hot water at any time you want.

Other things to note

We don't own a TV but there's a desktop computer in the twin room which plays DVDs ( please bring your own DVDs).

Free parking on premises

We have just had a lovely time spent in Sarah's home for the month of August. It truly is a great base for a family to discover Devon. We loved the friendly neighbours and our kids had a wonderful time playing on the green and at neighbours houses.

We had a very pleasant stay in Sarah's lovely home. Cosy, quirky and colourful, its located in a glorious part of the world, ideal for relaxing, exploring and taking in the beautiful scenery. Thoroughly enjoyed wandering through the woods, sitting by the river, catching the train from beautiful Buckfast and heading to The Cott Inn for a delicious meal! Everything worked for us and Sarah ensured we had everything we needed for a fabulous stay. Thank you!!!

We had a fantastic stay at Sarah's house. The description and photos of her home were very accurate and she made sure all our questions were answered before we arrived. The house is perfect for children with a beautiful garden and heaps of toys and instruments inside . We would definitely stay again!

Great family home - children loved the trampoline, garden access to the woods etc... Lovely quirky ambience made it for the adults.

Sarah's home is ideal if you have a young child or children, as there are so may toys for them to play with, plus lots of different musical instruments to try out. It could be noisy though, but should be good fun! Just a minor point, before anything else - there is no shower, which caught me by surprise. I had my first bath in a tub for 30 or more years! I think the water pressure is probably too low for a shower anyway. Another thing - no TV which is probably a positive point for most people, as you can get away from this for a few days. When we arrived there was a lot of written information from Sarah explaining about the house and the surroundings, plus lots of leaflets on local attractions. All very useful. If you go through the garden you get into the woods which are, as Sarah explains, magical! Only a short walk through the woods will take you to the Dart River. Plenty to explore. The area outside the house is peaceful with a green playing field area - great for kicking a ball around or throwing a frisbee, which we did on a few occasions. The neighbours are very friendly, and we did talk to a few of them. Overall a very pleasant home to stay at, and thoroughly recommended!

A lovely house and place to stay. Our 2 year old loved all the toys and instruments to play with and it was a lovely environment to stay in. The local area is lovely and the woods at the end of the garden were great for exploring. Would definitely recommend.

Sarah is a full time mother and craniosacral therapist. She works in a clinic in Totnes. Aleya is her beautiful two year old daughter who loves playing on the green with all the other kids, or picking wild flowers in the woods. Our home is full of music, from listening to old…
