The space
The apt., which is on the ground floor, is nothing special (kitchen, pantry, living room, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, toilet, balcony, car park space for 2 cars, barbecue facilities in the garden. The surroundings are really attractive: beautiful views of the mountains, churches on the hills, several homely restaurants and a lot of things to see and do nearby ...

Guest access
DIRECTIONS:
From the motorway, take the exit Brezje, then turn sharply right. The narrow paved road will take you (both, the left turning or the straight one) down to Globoko, across the Sava River, then uphill through Mišače and further straight uphill to Sr. Dobrava. Drive past the church, then turn right in the middle of the village, and turn right again after the 4th house. We live at Sr. Dobrava 3e, next to the 'Simple village apt.', between the church and the community building (guest house Marička).

Other things to note
In the village there is no grocer's store; the nearest small food shops are in Podnart and in Kropa, each of them about 5 km away.

Green nature, beautiful views, the vicinity of hills, mountains, towns with old cores, possibility of doing sports ...
Srednja Dobrava (URL HIDDEN) is my
home village. I have lived in Kranj almost my whole active lifetime,
working as English teacher at several schools, and moved back to
Dobrava with the family in 2002. We've built a new house on my
parent's property, 50 m north from this appartment. Father died in
2007?, mother who is 90, lives downstairs and is visited daily.

The gostilna pri Valentinu (not existing any more) offered turist
facilities back in the 19th century, being a summer resort for writer
Joža Lovrenčič (URL HIDDEN)
and painter Božidar Jakac
(URL HIDDEN) Today's gostilna
pri Marički is a pleasant stop for bikers, hikers and flaneurs. We
plan to build new turist rooms in the future, at the moment, however,
the apartment in the first floor, where we lived occasionaly 30 years
ago, is far from being fancy. It is appropriate for a visitors
tolerant towards the standard private house architecture of the
1970ties.

Srednja Dobrava and the neighboring villages were abandoned during the
WW II, as Germans sent 23 families (89 people of 352 total) in labor
camps in Bavaria, Germany (Poxau, Straubing, Frontenhausen) on
December 5th 1941 because family members joined partisans. 14 died in
battles with Germans, 12 have been shot as hostages, 6 died in the
exile. The most known partisan was Stane Žagar
(URL HIDDEN) a school teacher and
a communist, who died in a battle in march 1942. Another two members
of the Žagar family were killed as partisans: Stane jr. and daughter
Nada. Stane Žagar and his fallen comrades have a monument at the
Dobrava graveyard, the exiled villager have a monument plaque at
firehouse 50 m away. You may be interested to visit also other
partisan monuments in the vicinity

I would help you with pleasure as I have mapped them on Geopedia.
Miran could tell you more about Dobrava history as he is authoring the
Dobrava chronicle at Wikibooks
(URL HIDDEN) he is a literary historian
(URL HIDDEN) Our kids have their own
families: Mojca (librarian and goat keeper, 35) lives close to us, at
Zgornja Dobrava, Jurij (mechanical engineer and alpinist, 33) at Žiri,
one hour ride by car from here.

We own also an Alpine cabin one hour ride by car from here, which we
have started to offer to tourists in 2017 – check it by AirB&B entry 'Family retreat in the mountains'.

When younger we travelled a lot (USA, European countries, N Africa, The Soviet Union ...), so we know how important is to find a pleasant accomodation and meet friendly locals. We are both teachers and we find life without meeting new people boring.
