The Stable is holiday accommodation set in rolling countryside on the North Wales / Shropshire border. It enjoys magnificent views across the valley towards England. The Stable benefits from a heated swimming pool, open June - August, shared with the holiday property next door. A cosy log burner warms the main living area, which also benefits from oil filled electric radiators. There is a wet room with shower and a bedroom with double bed. Outside there is parking and secure bike storage.

The space
The Stable has a private decked area and small private garden. Guests also have access to three acres of private grounds and seasonal use of the heated swimming pool. Heated by a wood burner, with additional oil filled radiators, the Stable looks out through double glazed doors onto magnificent uninterrupted views across the valley towards England.
Despite being hidden away down a quiet country lane, the Stable is just one mile from the medieval village of Overton on Dee, with its pub, church and shops, and a few minutes drive from many wonderful attractions such as the aqueducts at Chirk and Trevor, the nearby towns of Llangollen and Ellesmere and the Castles at Whittington, Chirk and Oswestry.
The Stable has a comfortable double bed, with an electric blanket, double glazing throughout and a wet room.
A complimentary basket of wood, kindling and firefighters is provided for the wood burner.
Late check ins are not a problem. Keys can be obtained from a key box and the are automatic lights which illuminate the entrance if guests are arriving after late flights / drives. If guests arrive in winter the electric blanket can be left on by arrangement and the wood burner can be lit to make your arrival really cosy!

Where you’ll be

Overton, United Kingdom

Set in glorious rural countryside, the Stable is just one mile from the pretty village of Overton on Dee with it’s pub, shops and medieval church. The river Dee is also one mile away, the Llangollen canal is some three miles away and there are numerous riverside and canalside pubs nearby. The pretty town of Ellesmere is four miles away with its quaint half timbered buildings, seven pubs, mere (lake) and parks with woodland walks. By the mereside is a wonderful tea shop serving meals.
The Stable is on a quiet country lane which leads to a network of local footpaths, bridlepaths and quiet roads. It’s possible to walk or cycle for miles without having to use main roads. The quiet hamlet of Duddleston, with its ancient church (with an unusual hexagonal tower) lies just a couple of miles away and there are several circular routes taking in the river Dee, local pubs and nearby villages. There are maps in the Stable detailing the local area.
Overton on Dee is a historic village, with churchyard yew trees reputed to be nearly 2000 years old. It has a number of shops and farm produce is available together with meat from a traditional local butcher. Ellesmere is the nearest larger village, with a large Tesco and lovely delicatessen as well as many smaller shops. Its wonderful tea shop by the mere is complemented by seasonal availability of rowing boats. Llangollen is about 8 miles away and Oswestry ten miles. Chester and Shrewsbury are both about 22 miles distant, along very good roads, so the journey time is about half an hour. For National Trust members Chirk Castle, Erddig Country House and the magnificent Powis Castle and Gardens are all within easy reach. Hawkstone Follies is nearby, an 18th century garden filled with enchanting grottos, caves and passages as well as other memorials and a massive stone column up which guests may climb. The Llangollen canal network is accessible either at Ellesmere or at nearby Trevor, where for a modest day charge guests can hire boats to explore the two impressive Telford aquaducts and the Chirk tunnel. A network of footpaths and backlanes are accessible right from the door of the Stable, making it ideal for those seeking a relaxing rural break without the need to use a car. One of the lovely five mile or so walks nearby takes guests along the River Dee, has a halfway point at the village pub, perhaps for a Sunday Carvery Lunch, and returns via a loop right to the door of the Barn.
