The Tin Kingfisher is a recently built sleepout made from recycled materials. It is situated in a sheltered, sunny back garden under a walnut tree in a semi rural valley setting. Bathroom / toilet facilities and laundry are in the family home and accessed via the garden from an outside door.Access to the property is down a short, moderately steep driveway. There are a total of 11 steps as you make your way along a brick path to the back garden.

The space
The Tin Kingfisher would be great for couples or a single who would enjoy a place to stop over for a good night's rest, and would be happy to eat at one of the many local restaurants. It would also suit backpackers who may want to explore Akoroa or as a stop over on their tour of the South Island. It is easy access to the city center (20 minutes by car), and Gondola (5 minutes by car or a 12 minute walk) or only a 1.5hr drive to Porter Heights ski field. Sumner Beach is 10 minutes while access to mountain bike tracks is only 15-20 minutes drive to the top of the hill.

Guest access
The backyard is a shared space and while the hut looks onto this area, inside the hut remains private. You are welcome to use the backyard area. There is a garden path which leads to an outside door of the main house for access to the laundry, toilet and bathroom . There is no kitchen facility provided. Bedding is provided, and a
cupboard in the hut contains a kettle, toaster, cups, plates, cutlery, cutting board and knife and space for your own food. A tea towel, washing basin and dish washing liquid are also provided. A first aid kit and umbrella is also in the cupboard along with an extra blanket. There is no running water in the hut - this can be accessed from the laundry. Sitting space inside the hut is limited to one chair, but sitting on the patio can be pleasant. There is also a small camp table (in the cupboard) and two deck chairs under the bed. Outside on the little brick patio is a table and two chairs for a little extra sitting. Parking is available on a gravel verge on the street above our home.

Other things to note
No kitchen facility available. All water in the house is safe to drink. WiFi signal is strongest near the window side of the room and less strong on the tin wall side. There may be walnuts dropping onto the roof during March and April.

A mum of three, working in a primary school as a teacher aide. I am into the outdoors particularly tramping and the occasional alpine climb. Our family is musical and I tend to always have a few projects on the go, building or craft or organizing an event.

During your stay
I would be happy to meet and welcome you if I see you arrive, if I am home. You are welcome to arrive late in the night and if you let me know you are coming in after dark, I can leave the light on and a torch in the letter box. The room is unlocked (with a padlock available if you want to lock the room) to make your access easy anytime after the check in time of 4pm. Please message me if you would like to arrive earlier or want to drop bags before the check in time and I may be able to make an arrangement.
