The space

The cabin is on a beautiful isolated Caribbean beach where endangered leatherback and green turtles come to lay their eggs. We only operate and take bookings for between March and late August.

Jungle conditions are basic with no electricity and a tiny intermittent phone signal.

Recommended for the adventurous and YOLO crowd, not the scream at spiders types.

Guest access

Nightly turtle patrols, hatchery.

Interaction with guests

There are no roads, shops, restaurants or bars just pure nature. Bliss for some - hell for many.

Other things to note

La Tortuga Feliz is a non-profit organization and can only stay successful if volunteers participate in the project. With your contribution you help with the protection of the sea turtles and the improvement of the living conditions of the local inhabitants. Maybe even more importantly you will have the best time of your life!

For who?
Anyone who is enthusiastic and open-minded is welcome at La Tortuga Feliz. On average you are with around 15 others at the project. Our volunteers come from all over the world and are between the 18 and 65 years old (Lower age limit rigid unless you will be participating with a parent or guardian). The work can sometimes be physically demanding as you have to walk for several hours on the beach in all weathers looking for nesting adult turtles so you should be fit!

Volunteer activities
You can help with the realization of the project objectives by patrolling the beaches at night together (in all weathers) with the local inhabitants, manning the hatchery caring for and study of recuperating adult turles in the turtle rescue and rehabilitation cetre. In addition you will be involvedwith the day to day operational duties of running of the project.

Down time
After volunteering you can fish, sunbathe on the beach, read a book in a hammock, play several games, play soccer or volleyball, hike, and of course learn Spanish.

- Prices include volunteering, nesting turtle training, turtle hatchery training, lodging in dormitory style beach cabins with bedding and 3 meals daily with either tea or coffee.
