This is your opportunity to stay in your own double ensuite with its private entrance at Kincaple Coach House, situated in a pretty, quiet spot just over 2 miles from the historic centre of St Andrews - golfers, yes: it really is just a 5-minute drive to the Old Course, University parents yes, we're 7 minutes drive from St Salvators and yes - we're quieter than in town and have lots of private parking. Runners - the Chariots of Fire beach is yours in 5k/10k/10miles depending on your route.

The space
This is a private double bedroom with an ensuite shower-room in our pretty converted 18thC Coach House just outside St Andrews. We live in the house too and our two holiday cottages are just across the courtyard, but you're in your own closed-off haven with a private entrance all for you. We're not bang in the centre, not on the beach, we don't do papers, TV or trouser-presses - it's simple, simple, simple - you get a few books, then your only gadget is a coffee machine. Wake to unbelievable birdsong, coffee, warm croissants with home-made jams and fruit.

Guest access
You get your own stairs up to the Stable Loft, your own front door, you get to sleep in your bed and shower in your shower, and nobody else does.

Other things to note
We have two adorable but nutty terriers who own the garden, or think they do. We promise to keep them as quiet as - nutty terriers who are being kept quiet. They aren't allowed upstairs, much less in your room.

We live on the former country estate of what was a big grand house called Kincaple House. That's been divided up now but the remains of the old walled kitchen garden and apple orchards are still here. It would be an exaggeration to say we had sea views, because our house and cottages used to be the stables and coach houses and horses and grooms didn't really care about the sea. That said, you can genuinely see it from some of our windows. We're a five-minute drive from the medieval centre of historic, golf-mad, studious St Andrews - or a longish walk, or 5k run to the beach - but are also out of town enough to be surrounded by trees, and flowers in summer. As for the birds - chevrons of geese fly over as if they own our sky and we have resident pigeons, woodpeckers, starlings, robins, bluetits and owls, visiting cuckoos in summer and swifts criss-crossing the courtyard...

I've travelled a lot in my work as a freelance writer and out of it. We moved to St Andrews in Scotland from my last stop (Amsterdam NL) for the rugged scenery, the beaches, the Scottish way of life (yes, times have changed and you can get *great* food here) and for the poetry. It's beautiful here: bring a sweater. And for what it's worth, I *never* say 'hey, I'm Claudia'.
