It's what we long for - a total retreat from rushing, stuff, bandwidth; a probing of something primitive in self and those we love. Straddled on the shoulder of an exquisitely-crafted timber frame by a river bank, it radiates the integrity of authentic workmanship, renewable materials taken from the land, raw untreated finishes. Perfect for fall's glorious colours. Cabana, swim platform, fire pit, hibachi., wood burning stove. Please discuss with us about groups larger than four people.

The space
COVID 19 NEW regulations and policy:
We will no longer be supplying bedding, pillows or kitchenware until COVID 19 abates significantly. This is a safety measure that we must enforce. All garbage must leave with you when checking out.

Important / please read through all the info before booking.

PLEASE NOTE: The property is not available for any commercial purposes without prior consent. All photography, movie/film, wedding, elopements, photography sessions, engagement sessions must be discussed with The Buffalo Farm owners prior to staying. We do not give anyone permission to use our property without discussing the details with us and then paying a location fee.

Lastly- guests no longer have access to the top level of the yurt- such a shame we know, due to an accident our insurance will not cover us. If this is a deal breaker, please don’t book with us.
Or you have the option of cancelling 2-3 weeks prior.
Our yurt and tipi are covered with the highest-quality rain-resistant canvas. Nevertheless, when there is heavy rain, minor leaking is possible. We cannot be responsible for weather-related happenings.

Our yurt is one-of-a-kind boasting a panoramic window overlooking a pasture of grazing buffalo. Perched on the bank of the Amable du Fond River and surrounded by majestic forest, it welcomes you to an iconic Canadian wilderness experience. A PERFECT VENUE FOR SMALL GROUP EVENTS: family reunions, ladies retreats, wilderness photography, weddings, culinary workshops, field concerts and festivals, wilderness camps, yoga and wellness retreats.

The only way we can make this work as a small family business is to charge a base amount for the first guest and then an extra charge for each additional person older than two years. Please account for all guests when you book.

Here is what we provide:
• A very private accommodation on the banks of the beautiful Amable du Fond River
• Mosquito nets, when needed;
• A screened cabana and dock;
• Wonderful drinking water from our regularly-tested well;
• A canoe and life jackets (for rent upon signing a waiver);
• A hibachi charcoal barbecue;
• An outdoor fire pit and an initial allotment of wood;
• A picnic table and chairs;
• Canoe barrels for food storage;
We usually have kindling and charcoal.

What we do not provide:

• An unlimited amount of wood (extra wood can be purchased if desired);
• eating utensils and kitchenware;
• Battery-operated lights;
• Insect repellent.
. A ladder to the top - due to insurance we can no longer provide access to the top. A shame indeed

If you are travelling from overseas or long distance from out-of-province, we can provide everything you will need.

The Buffalo Farm Yurt experience is a unique adventure with endless ways to enjoy the best of Northern Ontario. Step out the front door and you are just a few feet from the lovely Amable du Fond River, generally a lazy-flowing river with private sand beaches for swimming, summertime picnicking, rustic outdoor cookouts, fishing or setting out in canoes (available to rent). Trails located nearby (Eau Claire Gorge, Algonquin Park ( so close to us), Samuel de Champlain Park or on our 500-acre farm itself) offer many options for beautiful hikes long and short. Visit Algonquin Park where you can enjoy a day paddle on the lake or a swim at the beach! Only a few minute drive from us, this is an incredible starting point for exploring the interior of Algonquin Park.

Expect to see wild birds and small mammals, stunning sunsets shimmering on the river, and a canopy of brilliant stars at night.

Things to do in the area
- Algonquin Park (campsites, canoe trips, kayak trips, swimming, fishing)
- Algonquin North Outfitters (kayak and canoe rentals/ guided trips.)
- Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park. Great hiking trails with scenic vistas (outstanding autumn colours).
