The space
The Fox and Feathers room:
This is a compact, warm and comfortable room. Note it is cosy double bed is tucked in a corner with access on one side. Heater, USB port, storage, view up the valley, clean air and healthy spring water.
We have had many wonderful guests stay, giving Hanway House 5 star ratings. Their kind reviews have enabled us to earn 'Superhost' status.
"
Enjoy the flora and fauna that surrounds Hanway House. Look for woodland plants, wild garlic, bluebells and the blossoming fruit trees. Forage for mushrooms, leaves, nuts, seeds and fruit. Identify tree types including our ancient trees. Enjoy the wildlife visiting from the woodlands and forest, deer, foxes, hedgehogs, bats and squirrels as well as an abundance of insects, butterflies, frogs and voles, not to mention the elusive lizards and newts."
"Hanway House is a 300 year old, former Estate Manager's cottage. It was part of the original Moor Park Trust (Moor Park itself is now a private school), owned by the Foster and Inchiquin dynasties. The late Lord and Lady Phaedrig and Vera O'Brien Lord Inchiquin the 17th Baron lived out their lives on the property. Their contribution to English heritage goes unrecognised with the Hon Major Phaedrig O'Brien carrying out field intelligence mapping during WWII, he was responsible for geological and mineral discoveries in East and Southern Africa, interests in photography, antique collecting and hunting post world war one. The families were the founders of the All Saints Church in Richards Castle where valuable works of art hang.
Today, Hanway House is a warm, comfortable and rustic cottage, full of life, personality, history, love and laughter. The best tea in the land is made using the crystal clear water from our exclusive spring. The spring flows into a brook that flows under the kitchen on its way to the river Teme - the mystery as to why the house was built over the stream has never been solved!"
We try to carefully balance our hospitality with your and my privacy, this is our home and you'll be welcomed as part of the family.
There are two storeys with the bedroom located on the first floor.
Entering Hanway House, you are welcomed by the warm, well equiped kitchen. There is an adjoining lounge with a wood stove followed by a second lounge with open fire and a large screen TV. A stair case then leads to the first floor where you will find your bedroom and bathroom. Above the bedroom area are the attic master and storage rooms.

Rustic, casual, country accomodation surrounded by woodland, wildlife and birdsong. Not city modern.
We open our self-catering home to you to share the house, countryside and extraordinary wildlife that we enjoy. We hope you'll love it as much as we do!
Children will find plenty to enjoy here, playing in the woods, making dens, paddling in the spring-fed brook or exploring the mysteries of the iron-age quarry.

I'm living in the Mortimer Forrest, surrounded by English history and heritage. Birdsong, wild life, forest, deer in the fields, foxes, night life with bats and owls possibly a couple of gnomes. You could be here too, chillaxing. Lived in the British colonies, educated in Kenya and South Africa. Worked in Kenya, SA, Zimbabwe, Germany, Namibia, Democratic Republic of the Congo and the UK. An eccentric generating energy and passionate for fun in life. Social, spontaneous and loves entertaining. I live with KittKat, a cat! An attitude for practicality 'fitness for use' in life and life's means, 'keep it simple'. A love of the open spaces, helping people to enjoy the same. I like to see people comfortable, at ease and happy. Let me call in the deer, owls, foxes and many birds for you round a warm open bonfire.

During your stay
We'll gladly help you, where ever possible - and even tinker with your car if needed.
Nature lovers:
We can sit outside by the bonfire and call in the owls and foxes.
The deer are timid but will visit the garden and steal from the bird feeders, they are a joy to watch and you can get releatively close.
Bird song is an integral part of Hanway House as are the Buzzards, kites and other wildlife. It is their home too.
Sit quietly by the brook and take it all in.

Your dogs are welcome:
We love dogs BUT please, no dogs upstairs in the bedrooms. There is a bed available in the warm kitchen and they can join you by the open fire in the lounge. Please clean up any hair, dirt and doggy do's before leaving.
In the event you might want to go out without your dog:
You can leave your dog in the kitchen or alternatively, we have a large, comfortable and secure kennel outside to use.

Your horses are welcome:
There is a stable and well-fenced, luscious grazing with water from the brook. Space for horsebox parking;. Miles of bridleways to explore. Please bring any bedding and feed that you may need for your stay. Kindly muck out before you leave.

Mountain/bike enthusiasts:
This is your world, meet the many challenging rides around Hanway House.
Ramblers and walkers:
There is a lifetime of space for you to wander, just step outside the door to enjoy.
