Our 640 Sq. Ft cabin/cottage (aka "Cabbage") is a humble 1950's home near Carlsbad Caverns, the Pecos Riverwalk & downtown. It's not fancy, but it sleeps up to 6 in 3 cozy bedrooms with queen, twin XL & twin daybed. Pullout full bed in living room, &crib. Window A/C, kitchen, living room w/ Netflix/Wii, plus washer/dryer. "Rustic" exterior with deck off the kitchen, a BBQ grill, huge fenced yard for kids/ dogs. We are great hosts (we think anyway) and hope you give the Cabbage a chance!

The space
Thanks for considering our place! We have worked really hard to make it the perfect space for travelers who want privacy, a convenient location, and a pleasant overall experience without much fuss.

Things people love about the Cabbage:
- Central location 2 blocks from City center & close to the Caverns
-Clean and unique New Mexico style, hand picked decor with a homey feel.
-Private space all your own ( whole house and yard for the cost of a basic hotel room) and 3 small but private bedrooms to separate the kids or unruly coworkers..
-All the amenities of home in a tiny little package- kitchen, washer and dryer, Netflix, barbecue grill, comfy couch, fluffy pillows, cozy beds, WiFi, etc
- Hopefully it's not vain to say we try to be attentive, friendly hosts and our guests mostly like us.
-Generally a better price than other full house listings due to it's small size, exterior condition, and location.

Reasons it might not be for you (and no shame in that!):
-working class neighborhood with many small, cheap, and/or ugly houses.
-Exterior still has cosmetic repairs to be done.
-Old house has uneven floors and weird ceiling heights
-Small space (mostly only a problem when you try to pass people in the hallway to the bathroom)

The Cabbage is probably the smallest 3 bedroom in town,- only 640 sq ft- but it lives large! It is an older house in a quiet hard working neighborhood and a with some quirks (wonky floors, low ceiling heights, and leaning porch, or example). The setup is perfect for those who want to have private rooms for the members of their group. The house is arranged to accommodate 6, plus a pack n play for a spare kiddo. Each of the 3 bedrooms neatly fits a bed ( one queen, one twin xl, one twin daybed), a desk and a closet. living room has a full size pullout bed. The home is heated and cooled by window mounted air conditioner units, and we also offer space heaters/fans in each bedroom. The exterior has a nice deck and a gas grill and a (super dead) garden, but is a work in progress, so this is the wrong house for you if you will be bothered by seeing sad plants, a dirt lot, unpainted stucco, or parts of the old wooden beams peeking out from under the aluminum roof, or our neighbors ugly house/cars ( no offense to them, they are otherwise good neighbors).

Kitchen: Complete kitchen with adequate storage, a full size fridge, and kitchen gadgets and accessories for preparing your own meals. Dine at the bartop with seating for 4 or enjoy al fresco dining on the adjacent outdoor deck.

Bathroom: Compact but complete bathroom with a combo tub/ shower, toilet and single vanity. Toiletries provided.

Living Room: Comfy pull out full size sofa bed to watch Netflix on the flat screen TV with roku. Or unplug and play wii, board games or borrow a book.

Bedrooms: Just enough space for sleeping or working. They are tiny but they get the job done, and you should be out exploring anyway! Clean white bedding on comfortable pillow-top mattresses covered in a warm down alternative filled euro-style duvets, with fluffy pillows and a cozy handmade throw for cooler nights. Small desk with task light for work, and of course a closet to store your things. Washer and dryer for guest use in the master bedroom closet.

Outdoor space: Eat dinner on the private deck to enjoy the great weather, grill some steaks on the barbecue. Let the kids or the dogs run free in the large fenced (but mostly dirt) yard. Parking for 2+ cars in the carport/ driveway, and plenty of street parking.

Note: We have fixed up the inside for the most part, but the exterior of the house needs some stucco work and paint and the yard is what we like to call "natural" with an "authentic New Mexico Style" fence. It is an older home and both the inside and outside have their little idiosyncrasies. We are always trying to improve

Where you’ll be

Carlsbad, New Mexico, United States

Carlsbad is a smallish town with a lot to offer! There are are 2 national parks very close- Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains, and more natural wonders within a few hours drive. Be sure to visit our riverwalk for an evening stroll or bike ride along the Pecos River, or you can rent paddleboats or jet skis for more exhilarating fun in summer. In town you can visit the Living Desert Zoo and State Park, or take a day trip to nearby Sitting Bull Falls Recreation Area or Brantley Lake State Park. The town also has a DIY pottery and painting venue, a few art galleries, several antique shops, two golf courses, a movie theater, a waterpark and 2 splash pads, several bars, one nightclub, and a couple museums. With an hour-ish drive you can visit Roswell, Hobbs, or Artesia for aliens, oil, or more oil. Also several wineries. And within 3 hours drive you can be in Ruidoso for mountain air or snow or casinos, or Alamogordo and White Sands National Monument, or the bigger cities of El Paso or Lubbock or Midland/Odessa.

Our neighborhood is near the crossroads of 2 main streets through town, very close to downtown, with easy access to everything. Houses on our street are small and cheap and there are a several homes in disrepair. That said, our current neighbors are retired people and families. Carlsbad in general has many derelict houses so its not just our street! We consider the neighborhood to be safe, but we still recommend traveling without valuables and locking your doors at night. We have never had any issues but for guests' peace of mind we have the exterior camera, deadbolts, and window locks.

I am a geologist-turned-mom married to a wonderful man with 2 wild and beautiful little boys. We have lived in Southern California, Arizona, and now New Mexico. We have traveled (sometimes with, sometimes without the kids) to Colorado, Nevada, Idaho, Washington, Massachusetts, Florida, Minnesota, Texas, Hawaii, Mexico Costa Rica, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and Ireland. We love traveling and try to take at least 2 trips per year. Our travel style is sometimes luxury and sometimes low-end. We are pretty laid back and friendly travelers, and we like to get to know a particular area more than moving around a lot. We are just starting to host and excited about the opportunity to help people learn about the awesome area we have settled in!
