Other things to note
You can learn more about our adventures in "Paddling to Winter," a memoir about our journey from Lake Superior (we started at Friendly Valley Beach, just down the road from the Red Onion) to Wollaston Lake in northern Saskatchewan, where we stayed for the winter. As a point of interest, in the second chapter, when we’re packing up cardboard boxes, etc., and looking out at Lake Superior from the second story window, that’s actually from the gray building next door. Also happening as were paddling away – the final stages of the Red Onion remodel.

The Red Onion was originally a garage for the owners of the Onion River Tavern – the grey building next door. The Tavern has been a residence for a few decades now but locals remember the Onion River Tavern as the place they would get picked up by their parents after skiing down the back side of Mt. Ashwabay ski hill to the north.

This is a rural residential neighborhood near the Onion River and Bayview Beach Park. While the house has a spacious yard and wooded area, there are two adjoining neighbors. We're located near historic Bayfield, Lake Superior, the Apostle Islands Lakeshore, orchard country, Mt. Ashawabay, biking trails, beaches.
