The dock is a floating dock so the water has to be warm enough for the dock to go in as we wade into the water or hypothermia could set in. We had ice on the water late in the spring season so the water temp was around 40 degrees - too cold to go in. That is not always the case. Last year it was around 60 so the dock went in early. That doesn't mean you cannot kayak or canoe. You can still launch from the water's edge at the end of the correct decking path. Just ask. Several guests had used it last year when we had pulled the dock out. I keep the paddles and life jackets on the back deck so they are always available to use. I do supply paper towels, coffee, tea, salt and pepper. All guests should feel free to let me know if the apartment is low on paper towels, toilet paper and so forth as I don't want to invade peoples privacy for entering while guests are here. Also, let me know when you plan to go out on the lake, so I have all the equipment ready for you. I am not as remote as is listed and for Maine the Searsport Market is large and fully stocked with everything anyone would need. I am a 4 min drive to the market and 10 min drive to Belfast and 6 min drive to a gas station with convenient store. I am not in a downtown area where you can walk to the store. Also, if you plan to come to Maine. Usually everything closes early usually 9pm for everything with summer hours at the market till 10pm. So please plan ahead. I certainly don't want to be misleading as I love my place and I want my guests to love it as much as I do. And enjoy.
