Beautiful 100% SOLAR POWERED! 400 sq. ft. studio. Private entrance. Safe street parking. Lots of natural light & amenities. Allison's local beech wood accent this modern studio with local artwork and beautiful gardens. Private patio space. 1 mi. to Biltmore, breweries & Blue Ridge Pkwy! 3 miles to downtown. Short walk to public bus stop! Just off I-240 and I-40 in east Asheville.

The space
One queen size bed with comfy Tuft & Needle mattress (brand new). One size "full" futon in living area with new, thick mattress. Both beds have mattress and pillow protectors for allergens.

Kitchenette is furnished with microwave, chef-style 2 burner cooktop, chef-style large toaster oven, small fridge and freezer, blender, coffee maker, etc... The toaster oven performs all the functions as a regular range, just in a smaller package. Kitchenette is stocked with all the hardware needed for cooking. Enjoy fresh veggies, herbs and cut flowers from our garden when available! Coffee, teas also provided!

Private bathroom with shower, towels, hair dryer, soap, shampoo, conditioner. We also provide a small ironing set. First aid kit and fire extinguisher on site.

Flat screen tv with Roku, Blu Ray/DVD player, bluetooth sound bar, wireless internet. We provide Hulu, Netflix streaming for free on the Roku. Several other streaming apps can be accessed with your login. Sorry, no cable. Games and puzzles as well as local guide books provided.

Excellent heating and AC with efficient mini split HVAC unit.

The apartment is connected to our home, but our space is separated from your space with a heavy duty door and dead bolt for your privacy. Kitchenette, bathroom, sleep area, and living area are all separate from our home for your exclusive use. The sleep area and living area within the studio are separated by a half-wall.

Guest access
The Birdhouse is accessed via a mulched, well-lit path through our front yard. You have full access to the private patio area directly in front of the guesthouse. You are welcome to use the front and side yard area as well as the front porch of the main house - you may see us there. If you would like to use our backyard, please ask us first. The backyard is partitioned off from your space by a fence.

Whoever you are and whatever your background - you are welcome here! We try to live life by the golden rule and treat everyone with equal respect. We only ask that our guests do the same for us and our home. LGBTQIA safe. Thank you, and we are truly looking forward to having you stay at our place!

We have a very spoiled rescue dog, Kona. She is a senior dog now that does not see or hear very well. You will see her in the front yard from time to time or sleeping in the bushes (her new favorite thing to do). If she greets you with barking, please just let her sniff your hand while you say her name loudly but in a friendly voice. She loves baby talk too! :)

Neighbourhood highlights

Safe, up and coming neighborhood on east side of Asheville city. Short drive or moderate walk to Biltmore Village food and shops. Short walk to Oakley Park and Oakley library. There is a small children's park with jungle gym, swings, and little free library at the church right behind our house.

Our neighborhood is diverse and of various economic classes. We have elderly neighbors, so please be respectful of noise late at night.

We are close to several local breweries: Highland Brewing, Hi Wire, French Broad River Brewery, Catawba Brewing, Hillman Beer, Sweeten Creek Brewing.

We are also very close to some great dining options in Biltmore Village: Rezaz Mediterranean, Red Stag Grill, Corner Kitchen, Well-Bred Bakery.

For something more casual, we are also very close to The Local Buggy Cafe Food Truck (great breakfast tortillas and tamales), Village Wayside, Moe's BBQ, Old School Subs and Deli, and Fairview Tavern.

We are down to earth, relaxed, love to enjoy the moments of life, hard workers, sun-loving, like sand between toes and dirt under finger nails. Love gardening, hiking, swimming, surfing, plants, flowers, animals. Beach and mountains. Good music, food and books! We are all just humans trying to find our place in the world. Try to live life by the Golden Rule. This guesthouse is our effort to creatively adapt to the challenges of life. An accident left Allison unable to work full-time but gave us the opportunity to create this addition to our home and meet our income needs. As a budding writer who has completed her first novel, Sarah hopes to one day use this space as a writing studio. Your stay at The Birdhouse will help us realize both our needs and dreams. We are genuinely excited and thankful to have you!
