The home and pool were spectacular. It is in a family-friendly gated neighborhood filled with monkeys and beautiful birds. Not far down on the main road is Playa Negra for great surf and sunsets as well as some great restaurants. Christian and his wife Annie were more than hosts, they became our friends. They were very attentive to everything that we needed and made sure we had a comfortable stay. I definitely recommend this home for your Costa Rica vacation!

I stayed with 6 friends at Villa las Palmas during Easter Week 2017. I must say the house is beautiful, it has everything you need and is very well located (2km away from Playa Negra and 200m away from an awesome convenience store). We liked the distribution and decoration a lot. A bonus was that we left by mistake a pair of seeing glasses when we left, and asked the owner if he could send them to San José. Without hesitation he did with an urgent matter and arrived just in time, packed perfectly so they would not damage. They also attended very quickly any concern we had during our stay. Important: if staying at this house, it is very important for guests (specially young people) to know that they are very strict about making loud noise (no music after 9pm or loud laughs, etc) because of the gated communitie's rules. Some recommendations we told the owner: put curtains in a bedroom that had a window without any curtains, fix a door, and check the transparency of the other curtains in general. Besides this, our stay was amazing and unforgettable, and will definately like to go back! Thank you Christian and Annie for everything!

This was our second trip to Costa Rica, as we traveled to this area 2 years prior but did not book at Las Palmas. On this trip, we unfortunately had to cut our stay short due to a brush fire near the house and could not take the chance of staying for the entire booking due to our young children. I understand things are different in Costa Rica, but that's what happened and it's the decision we made. There are some points that need to be clarified and I'm surprised no one has mentioned this before. Regardless, I list 3 main issues for future Airbnb'rs, which are points I wished I knew prior to booking as I would have made another decision: - The house is not inside a gated community, contrary to the listing. This was the main reason I booked, traveling with two young children, and upon arrival there is an open gate that does not get locked ("there is no need anymore" was the owner's comment as we drove in) and an empty booth next to the gate that looks like it has not been used in some time. Needless to say, our stomachs sank when we saw this, as the property is in a remote area (which I fully understood when I booked, but felt secure given the "gated community" amenity listed in the ad) - there is a caretaker (he is referred to as a "24/24 guard") that lives right on the property, about 20ft away. He is not a guard, but rather a local who cleans the pool and waters the plants and lives with his wife in the white building behind the pool. He is there twice a day for about 1.5 hrs. When he is not working on the house, he is home right next door. I did not view his presence as a plus (contrary to the owner telling me I should), or as a form of security (which is what the owner believes he is, but he's not). Perhaps my definition of a guard varies from other people, but guard to me means someone who stays at a post, "24 hrs a day, 7 days a week). I envisioned a secluded house inside a gated community with limited contact with people. Not the case. Note: Assuming the caretaker is the guard (which he's not) he did not speak to us, explain anything about the brush fire, and made no attempt to come and see how we were. We waited 30 mins for the smoke to clear, horses were neighing across the street, and my and my children's eyes were stinging from the smoke, to put the fire in perspective. The owner later told us we could come back, as the fire was taken care of, and the fire was 2 hills away which only confirmed the severity of the fire given the amount of smoke around the house. I don't blame the owner for the brush fire, but it highlights...

Christian and his family are very welcoming hosts. The house itself is very comfortable and well equipped. I loved the generous proportions and the space offered. The house has a lovely design and I felt "pampered" in it. It is a great place to enjoy a few days of rest and calm. Take a good book and don't forget to make an evening stroll on lovely nearby Playa Negra (or just do this, like we did, every evening).

The place was beautiful. The pool was great and so many of the amenities there were awesome. What made the trip so tough was that they had a strict check in time. We left San Jose at 1pm and due to accidents and road work it took us almost 8 hours to get to the house. The owner was threatening for us not to stay at the place even though the traffic was not in our control. We finally made and convinced him to let us stay. Second thing I did not like was that the people who work on the property were constantly around so there was little privacy given to us. When we came back from our day of activities, there was two of the workers chatting by the pool and doing yardwork. You would think this kind of stuff can wait until tenants are gone.

Hello Alex, thanks for having underlined that our villa is beautiful and very well equipped. I am amazed about your check in remark, because we take good care to specify to our guests, before they book, that the check in is between 3 and 6 pm, because after 6 pm, there is no staff to anymore to welcome. We were not satisfied with your delay of almost 3 hours, because immediately after you reserved, you warned us that you would arrive with a little delay... As regards the employees, all our guests appreciate the cleanliness and the maintenance of the property, in particular the garden and the pool. For that purpose, the employees have to be present a few hours per day, every day. Our customers also appreciate their availability and their speed of intervention in case of problem (moreover, you benefited from it at 9 pm, when you locked the bungalow with the key inside). We watch particularly that our employees are the most discreet possible, what most of our hosts notice. Be sure your remarks will help us to still improve the welcome of our guests.

Christian's villa was incredible! It is close to the small village of Los Pargos (a couple restaurants, small grocery store and small shops), and the beaches of Playa Negra and Avellana. Both are beautiful! Lot's of surfers in the area. The nearest large grocery store is located in Santa Cruz or Tamarindo - both about 30 minutes away (come prepared). The host, Silvan, did a great job of providing information about local activities including horseback riding, SUP through the mangroves, turtle watching, surf lessons, etc. From this area you can easily access other activities such as zip lines, ATV rentals, etc. Perhaps one of the coolest experiences was being visited by the Howler Monkeys almost every morning. The pictures that Christian provided accurately represent this beautiful villa.

While this home was beautiful, the location left much to be desired. It is about an hr down a dirt road from any services...resturants, stores, etc. and we busted a tire on the difficutl roads ( the housekeeper on the property did help us change it. the home was difficult to find and we found that the management was difficult to get in touch with. The home does have running water (though it is not hot, air conditoning in the bedrooms and a few things provided but be aware you will have to bring many of your own things as it is not very well accomadated with soap, garbage bags, spare towels etc. we did love the pool and the monkeys in the yard. we had made it clear that we were traveling with small children and our host set up rooms in the guest house for them. we wound up pulling mattresses ourselves up the stairs so we could all sleep on the same level beause clearly having my young children sleep in a seperate house as myself in the middle of nowhere is not safe. This is probably a great place for single people who do not want to be near the beach or any other people

Hello Jeff, thanx for your comments, I need to make some clarifications though: Hot water ? Of course we have it ! Maybe there was a problem and the housekeeper / guard is 30meters away from the house. Just mentioning it would have solved it right away. Probably an electric issue. Dirt road ? Of course !! This is why we love it here, and of course sometimes you bust a tire...And despite we are not a garage, as you mentioned it, we did help you out ! Beach ? Yes it is mentioned on our website and aibnb that it is 1 mile away. (and many more beautifull other beaches and locations around if you like to explore). Safe ? Of course it is, inside a gated community, with a guard 24h 30m from your house...But it is not a military camp either. We are not in a warzone ! Children in guest house ? No this is one and unique villa. There is no guest house. There are 4 separate bedrooms all with bathroom. The architecture gives privacy to all but certainly not something you can call a guestroom ! Look at the pictures, nothing is hidden. Great place for single people ? But most of our guests are families. I just think some people like all inclusive deals and should maybe book a hotel instead of a vacation rental. We of course provide towels and a furnished house but it is not a hotel, you must buy your food, shampoo and cook for yourself (unless you go to one of the nice restaurants nearby ( (URL HIDDEN) of them is french and renewed, most of them are very good and have different pricings). We are sorry that you did not experience what most of our guests like here. Calm, nature, animals, landscapes. We do prefer it this way, we do think a paved road would change the spirit and bring the danger of fast driving persons too. But alltogether, there is just 3km of dirtroad before you get back to a paved one. Not so bad for the car after all...Just a hint of what costa rica used to be... Hope you'll have some good memories anyhow. This would make us happy for you.
