Charming traditional Newfoundland house snugly fitted into the wonderfully picturesque fishing village of the Battery, overlooking the whole City of St. John's and the entire Harbour. Walk to shops, downtown, restaurants. Wave to the Cruise Ships as they pass by in and out of the Narrows. Hiking Trail to Cabot Tower and Signal Hill meanders past the front door. Wake to the sound of the seagulls wheeling overhead. Enjoy your morning coffee at the kitchen table or from the front deck.

The space
This little Battery house is a small structure with HUGE amounts of charm! There are 3 bedrooms with 2 Queen beds and 1 Double. There's a large bathroom with Soaker tub and Shower. Laundry facilities on site. The kitchen is generously equipped and the Kitchen Table with the Harbour view is like a magnet!! The front deck gives a bird's eye view of the harbour and is a source of constant wonder at the ever changing scene. Basic Cable, Wifi, electric heat. On road parking at front.

Guest access
Guests will have the entire house to themselves.

Other things to note
There is no designated parking but my guests use the parking space IMMEDIATELY behind the Stop Sign in front of the house or they can park along the railing opposite the house, making sure that they leave room for cars to pass easily. Streets are very narrow on the Battery, but we all work together to make it possible to park.

Can you please let me know an approximate arrival and departure time for your group? Are you flying in or driving?
I'm afraid I won't be in Newfoundland during your visit and so won't get to meet you in person but if you need anything at all, just message me or call and we’ll sort things out.

While you are in NL, might I suggest one of your first "activities' might be to take the trail which passes right outside the front steps and takes you on a glorious trek to the top of Signal Hill. The trail is marked as the "North Head Trail" and will wend it's way through the village of the Battery and out around the cliffs overlooking the ocean. It is a fairly vigorous climb but you do it at your own pace and you will be fine. Also, when coming down via the road you will find the Geo Center, which is a fascinating exhibit about the geological makeup of this most special part of the world.
There is also a lovely walk from Hipditch Hill around Quidi Vidi Lake, which will take you into the tiny fishing village of Quidi Vidi which has a wonderful restaurant called Mallard Cottage. There is a craft brewery in the village as well.
If Whale Watching and Iceberg sighting is high on your list of things to do, I suggest you contact Gatheralls tours in Bay Bulls, about a 30 minute drive from St. John's. They have a lovely catamaran which can take you to the best sighting areas with the least amount of rolling. On your way back to St. John's, slip off the main road home and drive through Petty Harbour and Maddox Cove. Chafe's Seafood Restaurant is highly recommended there. You can continue on from there toward St. John's and meet the road which will take you to Cape Spear, a "must see" on most visitor's lists since it is the Easternmost point on the North American Continent.
If you need groceries, there is a large Dominion Store within a 20 minute walk but there is a smaller neighbourhood market, called Belbins, a little closer and very comprehensive.
If there is time in your travels, a beautiful drive to St. Phillips will take you to my favorite restaurant for Fish and Chips. It is called "By the Beach" and it offers fabulous fish and a view over Conception Bay to take your breath away.

I hope these suggestions are helpful. If there are any other questions you would like answers to, please just message me through this Airbnb thread and I will do my best to answer any and all.

Cheers and have a wonderful time!

My husband, Ken, and I have raised our children here at Penmerryl and really enjoy sharing this wonderful place with others. We love to meet and host new people from all walks of life and all parts of the globe. I cook for and take care of my guests just like my family. I am originally from St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada and Ken is from London, England. We spent 7 years living on a boat and sailing before coming ashore to raise our family.
