Stately c. 1897 Colonial Revival Mansion only steps from downtown Lexington. Historic Elegance over three floors covers 5,800 sq ft. Four bedrooms, 3.5 baths, elegant dining room and a kitchen that is a cook's dream. We do live here with a cat.
Our home is literally one of a kind. Designed by leading architect H.L. Rowe, three years were spent planning and building it with every modern convenience of the day, including lighting that had a unique gas and electric configuration to keep reliable gas, but to use the latest technology, which was electricity. No expense was spared and a total of $ 18,000 was spent. Subsequent owners were not as flush as Mr. McCain, who built it for his family. This turned out to be a blessing; over the next 8 decades very few changes were made. We found original woodwork that was never painted, ceilings that were never dropped, pocket doors that, while they were locked behind walls by shag carpeting, were never removed, and chandeliers hung exactly where they were placed in 1897.
We bought the house in 1999 and replaced all of the electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roof and brick mortar while preserving every possible original detail. The result is a like-new house with historical elegance.
Guests will have four bedrooms, two offices, kitchen, living room, parlor, four bathrooms and plenty of closet space.
Interaction with guests
Interaction will vary. Sometimes we will be staying nearby, other times we may choose to take a day trip to another city.
We have lovingly restored this home with our own hands. We expect guests to take care of it as if it were their home.
