The Cottage Home was built in 1935. It is a two story home separated by a door/stairwell. The upstairs is our home when not being enjoyed by guests, so the space reflects this. -Some things are new, others nicely warn, but everything will be clean & guaranteed to be peaceful. The property is situated a few feet from the coast fork of the Willamette River. Wildlife is plentiful and diverse.
Your stay includes a private access to the waters edge with TWO kayaks included.

The deck:
The back deck overlooks the river and has a shaded pergola with a propane fireplace that will be full and ready to be enjoyed. Twinkle lights will set the mood and reflect beautifully off the water at night. This space can be enjoyed in the summer or winter months. Be mindful there is a road between the river access and back of house that is utilized by the caretakers to adjacent property. It’s minimal traffic and they are slow & courteous. Also, it was brought to my attention that the mill across the river is loud enough to compete with the sounds of nature. I’ve lived here long enough that I don’t notice it anymore I guess., but I believe the beauty of the river outweighs the slight noise inconvenience. NOTICE: less foliage in winter that fails to hide mill in winter as well. In summer it’s mostly hidden.

The kitchen:
If you enjoy cooking/bbq’ing this is the place for you. There is a cupboard full of spices and a refrigerator stocked with condiments you are welcome to use. Out the back deck is a full herb garden you can help yourself to if your stay happens to be during the summer months.

Outdoor cooking:
The deck area has a stainless steel counter top perfect for outdoor cooking. A Bbq is provided, along with an outdoor cook top burner. What could be better than cooking breakfast on a warm summer morning while watching the river flow by?

**The NEGATIVES, because let’s be clear: this is NOT a five star resort, if that’s what you are seeking please choose a different listing. This is an almost 100 yr old house that is lived in when not being utilized by guests. My cleaning service does a GREAT job, however there are a lot of surfaces to keep clean in a home that’s well lived in. If you can’t overlook a missed surface here or there please choose a different listing as it’s bound to happen on occasion.
The windows don’t have screens, it’s a personal choice because i like to look out of a crisp clean unobstructed view. There is a screen door on the back deck and overhead fans for air circulation.

We live in the country so there will be bugs., not an excess amount of them but it’s a part of country living.

The mill across the way is noticeable in the winter when the leaves are off the trees as is the hum of the mill on week days.

This is a space designed to be lived in.. its cozy, comfortable and functional. Please only book if this vibe suits your personality and needs..

Where you’ll be

Cottage Grove, Oregon, United States

The space provides enough to keep one entertained, however, if you want to scout around the town of Cottage Grove, the freeway access is less than a mile away. —Cottage Grove is 2 miles South and Eugene is 18 miles North.

We have two lakes within 20 minutes of us-Dorena Lake and Cottage Grove Lake. If you enjoy hiking and waterfalls Brice Cr is a must with at least 4 waterfalls.

Saginaw Vineyards is one street over and provides a quaint venue with outdoor live music in the summer every Friday night at 6:00 pm . It’s a quick bike ride away or within walking distance if you are so inclined.

The town of Cottage Grove also offers a Row River Trail, a 30 mile bike path that is adjacent to Dorena Lake. This loop connects 6 historical covered bridges, 2 of which you can drive through.

The Village Green serves great food w/a fireplace lounge. Often providing live music and dancing as well.

Cottage Grove offers a rustic brewery & a great breakfast from Busters, located on main street.

The possibilities are endless around this friendly little town...

Hello, I’ve lived in the river house for 20 yrs, raised my family here and have many many great memories. I never imagined sharing it with the world, but why not?! I am happy others get a little taste of what we’ve enjoyed over the years. I’m a Dental Hygienist and love to fish and travel. Sharing my home has allowed me to do more of what I love, so thank you for choosing river house for your lodging needs. :)

During your stay

Please note *we now have one cat SUSHI who is very comfy living in the basement only. She is only allowed downstairs and may or may not be heard roaming around down below during your stay. :)

Typically there is no interaction with guests, respecting privacy, but there is a separate entry to the basement that may or may not be utilized during your stay. There is also an adjacent apartment to the main dwelling that has a tenant with their own isolated entry. These tenants are quiet and very respectful of guests privacy as well.
