"Downstairs at the B.G.V." is a great place for those looking to explore the area, or do business, while taking in the tastes of local restaurants and breweries. On the shores of beautiful Lake Memphremagog, this little City is surrounded by all the things you're looking for, without the crush of people. Come explore, stay & visit family, or friends, or...! "Downstairs at the B.G.V." looks forward to welcoming you to the Northeast Kingdom (NEK)!

The space
This private suite on the 1st floor, below the "Big Green Victorian - Upstairs" apartment, offers a large comfortable living room, complete with Cable, WiFi, and a '60's record player, with vinyls. The bedroom has a Queen-size bed and attached bath (with linens, towels...). A private screened in porch offers an additional social area (depending on the weather!).

Some guests have commented that the bathroom is small. I like to think of it as being compact. It has all you need, porcelain tub/shower, toilet, sink, and a place to put things. This is an old house with the original bathroom, which was for function, not necessarily for comfort. And that, is part of its charm!

"Downstairs at the BGV" has no kitchen and isn't intended to act as one. It does have microwave and small refrigerator. A Gift Certificate to a local breakfast restaurant is provided for the first or another morning, of your stay. As for coffee, there are three options available: 1. A coffee maker with Green Mountain Coffee can be placed in the space; 2. If you have pods, a Keurig can be placed; 3. If you like coffee but rather not make it, I can provide you with a carafe of fresh brewed coffee each morning (I get up early and it's not a problem at all). A device for boiling water can also be made available for those who prefer Tea.

There is an air conditioner in the living room window (placed generally around the first of June and removed mid October) and a window fan in the bedroom.

During the heating months, the temperature in the suite is 68 degrees with high ceilings. Sitting and watching television or reading or ... may be a bit chilly, but there are plenty of lap blankets. But you might want to bring a sweater if you run cold. However, to date no one has commented on the temperature.

Location

Newport, Vermont, United States

Newport itself, sits at the southern end of Lake Memphremagog, an Indian name meaning (and fitting), "beautiful waters." From the "BGV" you're a 5-minute walk to the bike path and lake. Swimming in Newport is limited to Prouty Beach which can be reached by car or bike path. There are several other places to swim in the area as well as hike and bike. Bluffside Farm is easily accessed and covers several areas of outdoor activities.

At the top of the lake is in Magog, PQ (Canada), a charming, French Canadian city, 40 minutes away by car. Along the way, the trip takes you through some of the lovely Eastern Township communities providing a variety of seasonal offerings. A passport is required.

I think of myself as creative and eclectic. You’ll pick up on that when you arrive. My Airbnb offering is a comfortable combination of different time periods, ranging from the 1970’s to today. I was left a big house, with furniture in good condition, so it just seemed natural to put it to good use. Many of my guests have commented on how the furnishings create a sense of comfort, and welcome. In 2021, I will have been Hosting with Airbnb for six years. I've welcomed a lot of people and feel good about the successes I've had. I look to the future with hope. As a "Friend," and Board Member of Joshua House Inc., a local nonprofit that works to keep people sustainable and prevent them from ending up homeless; I will donate 5% of what I make on each paid reservation. Caring about others is what hosting is all about! I appreciate positive criticism. The reviews and comments of my guests are always appreciated and taken to heart when preparing for new guests to arrive.

During your stay
I look forward to welcoming you personally, but your arrival is based on your schedule, not mine. I like to contact my guest prior to their arrival to explain how to get to my driveway and into the house. When you arrive, the house and the suite will be unlocked, and ready. Instructions about the keys and the doors are provided once you arrive.

As it is a big house, I live here as well. So, if you need something, I'm available and will do my best to help you.
