Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Combining history with modern amenities, this beautifully restored loghouse occupies 156 acres on Hastings Lake. Offering tranquillity in a natural setting, this heritage site is a short 45 minute drive to Edmonton. Experience a real pioneer home!

The space
Stay in one of the oldest homes in Strathcona County. This is your chance to experience an early pioneer home without sacrificing modern amenities. While maintaining the original character of the loghouse, newer additions have included a full kitchen, heated floors, bathroom and laundry facilities. While the loghouse provides lots of space in which guests can relax and enjoy their stay, the layout for the bedrooms is unique. There is a loft bedroom with a queen bed that has a full staircase leading up to this bedroom. The sleeping nook has a single bed with privacy curtains and is located on the main floor and close to the bathroom. In the living room, a sofabed pulls out into a double bed. In addition to the above sleeping arrangements, a small cabin adjoining the loghouse called the Lazy S has a queen bed with its own private porch. There are no bathroom facilities in the Lazy S; however, it is a short walk to the facilities in the loghouse.
In addition to the loghouse, the property also features many historical items including an old bunkhouse, a Swiss-style logbarn, antique farm machinery and an old boat once used for a tourist camp on Cooking Lake in the 1930's. Kilometres of trails throughout the property introduce you to the native flora and fauna in this area. As a wildlife preserve, the property has been maintained in its natural state. Our property also boasts a 70 acre Ducks Unlimited Conservation Area with beautiful meadows, wildflowers and ponds. If you are looking for a peaceful location in which to enjoy nature, this is the place for you.

Guest access
Maggie's Hill Heritage Loghouse is close to premier attractions including Elk Island National Park, Ukranian Heritage Village and Blackfoot Cooking Lake Conservation Area. Sherwood Park provides many amenities including shopping, theatre, public library, recreational facilities, restaurants and a farmers market. Within 45 minutes you are on Whyte Avenue in Edmonton with its theatres, festivals, boutique shops and diverse culinary experiences.

Other things to note
Your hosts live on the property in another location. This is a working ranch and they will be farming depending on the time of year. Your hosts do have animals at their location including cats, dogs and horses.
Please note that all pets require pre-approval and a cleaning fee of $25 is added to the reservation.
All guests must be registered and identified through the reservation process. Gatherings and parties are strictly prohibited.
The Lazy S must be pre-booked to be included with your stay and is only included with the payment of additional guest fees.

Neighbourhood highlights

This rolling land east of Strathcona County is called the Land of Lakes for good reason. Populated with many lakes, we are situated on one of the most eastern of them called Hastings Lake. Renowned as a bird sanctuary, Hastings Lake is a treasure trove for bird watchers. Maggie's Hill is home to many species of birds including teal ducks, wood ducks, pelicans, bald eagles, ruffed grouse, goshawk and great horned owls. Wildlife is plentiful on the ranch with the opportunity to view moose, deer, coyote, muskrats, beavers, bobcat and even the rare wolf.

My work: Maggie's Hill Heritage Loghouse
Lives in Alberta, Canada
I enjoy spending time in the outdoors including hiking, biking and horseback riding. I value heritage and have enjoyed a career in museum management. Personally, my husband and I have owned historical properties that we have strived to restore back to their original character. We love to travel, explore new places and meet new people. Fulfilling one of our goals, over the years we have taken our four children on camping trips across Canada travelling as far north, west, south and east as possible in a truck with an old canvas tent. We loved our journeys together as a family and we look forward to meeting you and hearing about your journeys.
