We are sorry that our place did not meet with your expectations and that you felt it was far less than the 5 stars we aim for.
As you pointed out, our building is 110 years old, and very loud noises and very smelly cooking odours will permeate the building, and as you also pointed out, we do state that in our listing. It is also the reason why our price point is what it is and why we ask guests not to be excessively noisy past quiet times and not to cook very smelly foods.
We are sorry that you seem to have had issues with noise during your stay and we are disappointed that you did not let us know and give us the opportunity to take care of it. We live downstairs below this unit and did not hear anything except the usual minor noise (well within quiet times) one would hear when living in an apartment building with others, but we take this as part of apartment living and a part of renting the space out on AirBnB.
We take pride in the cleanliness of our building and always aim for 5 stars in that regard, and despite our building being as old as it is, we think we come very close to that ideal. After every guest leaves and before another arrives, we thoroughly clean the apartment from top to bottom and thoroughly vacuum and mop every floor surface, including under all furniture, even if it doesn’t appear to need it. This apartment was thoroughly cleaned from top to bottom by myself and was ready to go two hours before your arrival.
With this in mind, we were disappointed to hear that you found some dirt on the floor and did not let us know so we could rectify it. We would have been more than happy to come up and clean it for you so that your stay could have been the 5 stars we try to achieve.
I can only assume that instead, you cleaned it yourself with our once white bathroom hand towel, which we had originally assumed you had used to clean your boots, because we did not find any evidence of dirt all over the floor like you described to us in your private comments when explaining why you left us such poor marks.
We were also extremely disappointed to hear that the lack of ventilation you mentioned in your private comments affected your asthma. Again, we wish you would have contacted us right away instead of waiting until you were already gone. We did check all five of the windows which open directly outside to the fresh mountain air, after you left and there did not seem to be any issue with opening or closing them and we found them all to be in good working order.
At this point, I can only assume that you were, perhaps, confusing us with another place you may have stayed in your travels and we are sorry for your experience.
We do thank you for complimenting our supply of pantry items, as we also take pride in supplying what we think most guests will want or need and are always striving to improve it.
