The space
Galatée is a new traditional houseboat located on a quiet wooded private gated mooring in the heart of London. She is bright and warm. The private mooring is in a beautiful spot on Regent's Canal, surrounded by trees and local wildlife and no overlooking neighbours. This is a calm and peaceful place to stay right in the centre of London.

Update Covid-19: Please note that we follow Airbnb enhanced cleaning guidelines throughout the boat to ensure a clean and sanitized stay, including sanitizers and cleaning supplies available for guests.

The hosts live in a cabin at the other end of the boat (stern) and are delighted to share Galatée with you. You have a personal entrance onto the bow of the houseboat and to your own self-contained, private little cabin comprising a folding table and chairs, DVD and videos, and sofa-bed, separated by a large cupboard from the small but comfortable double-berth with washbasin. There is an electric heater in the cabin. Please be aware that space is confined on a boat. The berth has a foot-well under the cupboard to accommodate a double bed (140 cms wide by 195 cms long). The sofa-bed is 80 cms wide for one adult or child. Complete bed linen and towels are provided and the beds are prepared for you.
You have use of a private bathroom with small bath, shower and chemical toilet. There is plentiful hot water, mains electricity, and free wifi.
We are pleased to offer complimentary tea, coffee, and cereal, milk, juice, jams, bread etc for breakfast. Also a kettle, toaster, plates, cups, glasses and cutlery are provided in your room and you have use of the microwave and fridge.

If required private use of the whole boat (spacious living rooms, equipped kitchen, berths for 5 people) is also available on Airbnb (view Stunning Houseboat Central London).

There are 25 steps down to the mooring and a large step onto the boat. When possible we will be there personally to welcome you and explain everything about life on board Galatée and how the mooring works. If we are away a friend will meet and greet you. If possible during your stay, we would love to share a drink or coffee.

Living on a houseboat is not like living on dry land. People expect it to be cold and damp, but our home is dry and warm. Galatée is securely moored and does not sway at all in the water unless in the wake of a large boat.
There are some things to remember about boat life:
- The shower/bath does not empty without the flick of a switch for the pump on the side of the bath. There is a chemical toilet, perfectly hygienic.
- Full linen is provided, as well as an iron, hair dryer and complimentary soaps/shampooing.
- Water on the boat is pure and drinkable, and stored in a tank under the flooring. You will hear a noise from the supply pump when taps are turned on.
- Living on board is comfortable and fun but you must be aware that space is confined and interior soundproofing is much less efficient than in a normal house.

In fine weather you can sit outside on the bow of the boat or in our little garden area. Our little rowboat is available in the summer for experienced rowers. The canal is calm and peaceful and there is a beautiful view over the water by day and night; you will occasionally see other boaters who go chugging by.

Washing machine/tumble dryer & ironing facilities are available on demand. There is a small supermarket round the corner and an easy walk to Islington Angel shopping center (Waitrose, M&S, Sainsbury's) and to Chapel Market for fresh market food.

We know lots of tips for an great stay in what we think is the best city in the world! We can happily recommend many good restaurants, cafes and gastropubs both in the local area and further afield.

It is a pleasant walk along the towpath to King's Cross and Granary Square (10/15 mins). Towards the east is Islington Angel, with its restaurants, theatres, music clubs, and shopping centre, and towards the west it's about a 25 minute walk along the canal to Camden lock and the attractions of Camden market. And there is an abundance of railway, underground and bus connections in the area.

Guest access
The gatehouse is on Muriel Street (next to number 52). Please call us by phone to gain access when you first arrive.
The gatehouse doors must always be locked.
Please note that there are 25 steps down to the mooring and a large step onto the boat and into the cabin.
We ask you to kindly confirm with us your expected arrival time within a 1 hour timeframe. If we are not at home, our housekeeper will come to the boat to meet you and show you around.

Other things to note
On Mondays and Tuesdays we kindly ask for quiet on the boat during the afternoon/evening (1pm-8pm) as a psychotherapist uses our end of the boat for consultations. He works only on our end of the boat so your entrance and cabin remain entirely private, but he needs real quiet (in particular no noise from the bathroom/ water pump) so that his patients can feel in confidence. Thank you for your understanding.
The hosts live and work at the other end of the boat and will normally be around during your stay, if you need any help. We are always available by phone/email.
Please remember that space on board a boat will be more confined and interior sound-proofing is less efficient than in a flat, but Galatée's Cosy Cabin has been organised to ensure that living on the water is a comfortable and restful experience for our guests.

Galatée has everything you'll need to enjoy an original stay in London! We are located in a wonderful part of London. Walk for 5 minutes along the towpath to the new Granary Square development with its fountains, bars, restaurants, cinema and theaters, the iconic Word on the Water barge-shop and Harry Potter's 9 3/4 platform at Kings Cross. And 30 minutes walk along the canal you get to Camden Market.

In the other direction, five minutes up the hill is Islington town centre with its markets, many dozens of pubs, restaurants, theatres, comedy houses. There is the world famous Sadler's Wells dance theatre.

On the mooring we have a wooded garden with a small secluded BBQ area which you may use (please buy your own charcoal).

There is also a beautiful clinker built rowboat which you may use (under your own responsibility) if you are e a competent rower as the canal needs to be navigated with care. The row up to Kings Cross is beautiful and you can moor up there for a drink or meal.

If you are angler, you can fish from the mooring which is a well known fishing spot.
