Built in 1880, our home is available for up to seven people. Huge master bedroom, guest bedroom, laundry room/bedroom and "yoga room" with foam mattress on floor. Two baths, full kitchen, large dining room, living room, tv/sun room.

The space

Beautiful Victorian built in 1890, guests will have the entire top two stories to themselves, including a large dining room, sunroom, exercise room (we use it for yoga and meditation in the morning), a third-story back deck with exercise equipment.
The dining room and living room are suitable for gatherings and family meals. The dining room table (with leaves inserted) seats as many as ten comfortably. Guests are welcome to use our china and silverware. Just plan on washing the china and silver by hand.

Guest access

Warning!! Due to low, unscreened windows and steep stairs, our house is not suitable for small children.

We will probably leave the key to the house on the kitchen table and leave the front door unlocked on the day that you arrive since we will be heading out on a trip ourselves.

Full laundry and kitchen with all implements and condiments needed for cooking. Cable TV with Apple TV (streaming Netflix), Internet access throughout and a relatively new desktop Mac. Sunny third floor deck with views of the bay area.

Interaction with guests

We may not be here to greet you, but the house is yours. We will leave extremely detailed information about the house.

Glad that you had good time. A quick question: did any of your family use the guest room across from the master bedroom...the room with the blue Japanese curtains? It looks unused, but we are just trying to figure out if we need to change the linens. Thanks...Dell

Very spacious and lovely house! 2 big bath rooms and 3 bed rooms and a extra sunny room with balcony. the hosts are very kind and friendly, although we did not meet them.Street parking is always no problem. Alameda is oasis of San Francisco bay area. But take note that the bay bridge to SF could be heavy traffic sometimes, plan ahead if you have appointment in downtown SF.

Upon arrival we received a tour of the house and a thorough list of instructions that would maximize the enjoyment of our stay. Pat and Dell were great hosts that welcomed us with open arms and a full pantry, including homemade cookies. We settled in as if it was our residence, lounging in the TV room, cooking in the kitchen, and playing baseball in the street. The neighborhood children joined in and a great time was had by all. There is a neighborhood grocery store just up the street that we were able to purchase food and restock the fridge upon departing.

Thanks so much for your gift...I think that I told you that we were in a meditation retreat, so I didn't see the scores, but I hope that your team won. We walked in the door and without even opening our emails, we watched game 5 of the playoffs, so our heroes, the Warriors, made us happy. come back (URL HIDDEN) would be fun to get to know you...Dell

Home is in a nice, quiet neighborhood, spacious, very Bohemian. Location was biggest draw - centrally located for visiting family scattered around Bay Area without having to pay SF rates. SF bus stop one block away. House is between shopping areas and mile from shopping mall and beach. House is best as just a base - somewhere to sleep and have cereal in morning before going out. Health food fanciers might enjoy the homemade granola and six kinds of herbal tea provided. Coffee was provided, but coffee maker didn't work properly, so we bought instant to get by, and normal tea and cereal. Hosts left nice packet of scones (nice welcoming gesture). Kitchen is large but lacks modern equipment. There is no microwave. Ovens and toaster oven old and slow. We gave up on cooking and enjoyed restaurants on nearby Park Street instead. For family dinner we ordered pizza. Master bedroom has skylight making sleep impossible after dawn without sleepmask. Second bedroom simply furnished but comfortable. Third bedroom is also laundry room, with central heating system closet (noisy), luckily didn’t have to run heating at night or sleep would have been difficult. Exercise room had no futon as advertised, so not used (would have swapped for third bedroom). Deck door wouldn't stay closed. Deck tiny, but nice view of rooftops. Wifi connection easy and fast. Television system complicated, required three remote controls and help to sort out. Tv lounge very comfy; pity tv difficult to use and DVD collection limited. House notes warned re steep narrow stairs and electrical issues - using hair dryer or bathroom heater trips circuit breaker so didn't use either. Luckily warm during our stay. Also told to use lamps not living room lights as they flickered. We didn't meet our hosts. They were unavailable by phone. Told they were available by e-mail, but if no e-mail coverage then in emergency to contact their son in Australia (not sure how that would have helped). We had had pleasant exchange of e-mails prior to arrival. We were encouraged to use whatever was in the house, as well as pick lettuces and lemons from garden if desired. House has wood floors, with strict no-shoes policy, slippers were available, we brought our own - didn't fancy wearing other people's shoes. No dedicated parking, but on-street parking was never a problem (unlike San Francisco). Hosts seemed like nice folks, but house is very quirky. Guess we weren't quite the right fit for this house, and we would not stay there again as not comfortable for us. However, if you are young, fit, on-the-go, it could be just the ticket, or if flying through Oakland airport that's a 15-20 minute drive (SFO is an hour), or looking for a taste of the boho lifestyle this might appeal.

This place is absolutely fantastic and the neighborhood is quite, safe, and convenient. For the hardware side, this place is exactly as the posted photos and texts describe. In fact, there is much more things to do/discover in this place: fresh lemons from the lemon tree in the yard, great collection of records... More importantly, for the software side that you can't really tell from the computer screen until you stay here yourself, we love the host's generosity and mutual trust with guests which is rarely found in today's digital world.

This charming and cozy home was a perfect fit for my family of four. Conveniently located to some of the best restaurants, shops, and area excursions, our family loves this home! Exceptionally clean, it has features that make you feel like you're home. Dell and Pat made sure all the items you could want were waiting for us. The owners are very thoughtful and the love is in the details in making sure we were always taken care of. I will certainly miss this place! It "sparked" the idea that maybe I should leave my Atlanta home and live in Alameda! Thanks for one of the best family vacations ever! ~Maynard & Wendy Jackson, Atlanta, GA
