Peaceful cabin with wood fired sauna, beside a babbling creek with breathtaking mountain views on a buffalo ranch. This cabin is off the grid, candle light, outdoor and indoor kitchen area, propane back up heat, romantic and cozy with Super Host status!

The space

By staying in the cabin you are helping me save a breeding a herd of buffalo. Thank you! The cabin is a beautiful space, simple but wonderful feeling with babbling creek and pools right in front and private porch and lawn. Loft with bed, candle light, wood fired sauna, no electricity, propane bbq with extra burner, out door kitchen, indoor kitchenette and back up propane heat, composting toilet and solar shower.

Guest access

Guests can make themselves at home, wandering walking, snowshoeing, skiing around the ranch, down to the river, where you can continue for 26km up the river to the Mummery Glacier. If you find a rope across the driveway, please open it drive through and close it again behind you.

Buffalo tours run at the ranch from May 15th until September 30th. Guests get 50% off the price of the tour ($7.50 for adults, $6 for kids). In winter, tours are by prior arrangement only, feel free to ask about how those work.

Interaction with guests

I am very happy to share with guests about the buffalo and life here, as I can between other responsibilities. I want all my guests to feel at home on the ranch and have a wonderful time here. It is an amazing place. Winter can get cold here, on are occasion down to -40! the cabin is beautiful and cozy, but you have to be prepared to do some work bringing in the wood we supply and stoking the fire and dealing with snow and stuff. It's real life out here and you have to like some adventure.

Other things to note

We very strongly prefer a two night minimum stay, but sometimes make exceptions for example when there is one night open between bookings. The cabin accommodates two adults. Queen bed in loft.

Leo's ranch is the perfect place to take a step back and enjoy some quiet time - it was our biggest takeaway from our Alberta/BC trip. We had plans to explore Golden and the surrounding area more, but ended up staying at the cabin to read (Leo's selection of books is great too), walk around to say "Hi" to the buffalo and take the tour, which was very informative. The sauna is great for chilly evenings and you can make any meal on the propane burner/bbq on the porch. I highly recommend a stay at Leo's ranch!

This cabin is really nice! We were hear when temperatures were very unusually high (35-39C, rather than the 25C that usually occurs) and so the place was uncomfortably warm. Also, the mosquitoes were more than we expected and so we didn't do much exploring. But, the sound of the creek was wonderful, and Leo and Tilly were super helpful.

Response from Leo:
I'm sorry it was hot in the loft!! I was hoping and expecting it would be okay even with the hotter than normal temps. and I am putting a big window that opens up there asap. Usually if you leave the back screened door and the big downstairs window open though, it's comfortable up there and we've had virtually no complaints before in 4 years. ( except for when someone starts the sauna in summer, then it gets hot up there) There's also a fold out couch on the ground floor room under the window. It has been the worst year for mosquito's in the 19 years I've lived here but it's about 20 % of how bad almost all the places around us are, because of the extensive natural controls we take to prevent them. I hope in spite of these things you guys had some fun!

I booked the Buffalo Ranch for my mum and her friend as they were doing a Vancouver to Banff and back road trip to go hiking. The Buffalo Ranch was a great pick for them, they loved the scenic hiking trails and the ranch itself. My mom wants my entire family to go again and stay in the lodge for a family get away.

Great little cozy place to disconnect. Highly recommend to everyone. We had a blast and enjoyed everything. Fully equipped in cabin which was awesome because we didn't need to bring anything with us. Loved the buffalo. So much fun. We will be back. Lou and Peter

This secluded, rustic cabin is located at Leo's Buffalo Ranch. If you are looking for a peaceful, off-grid, away-from-the-world spot, this is it. The cabin has all the basics needed. We spent most evenings on the deck, watching the day slip away; looking out at the grasslands and mountains; listening to the creek and the birds sing merrily. What a wonderful way to unwind. Highly recommend this place.
