Location

Sherwood, Oregon, United States

We love our town! We are at the gateway to wine country yet a short drive to downtown Portland. There is a year-round ice skating rink, horse riding stables, boating on the Tualatin River, breweries, boutique bakeries and more! World class wineries such as Ponzi Estates will remind you of the Tuscan countryside. Five minutes south of us is the Our Table organic farm with a resident chef who creates daily delicacies for sale at the Farm Store and deli which sells locally made products. In addition to the regions more famous products such as wine, hazelnuts and seasonal berries are sold organic meats, bread and cheeses.

Walking distance from Teaspoon Suite is: Symposium Coffee, Masons' Italian Restaurant, 503 Uncorked wine bar, Smockville restaurant, Fat Milos diner, the Sherwood Arts Center, the Saturday Market (in season) and Hungry Hero Bakery. A walk up the hill to Snyder Park offers views of Mt. Hood on a clear day. And during the non-rainy season the park offers a great dog park.

Bike trails and parks connect the town. There are many parks including the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge which is a birder's favorite (a 6-minute car ride away). Sherwood is a very friendly community with playgrounds, tennis courts, ball parks and a marching band that can be heard practicing in the warmer months. In the distance we often hear the cheering of baseball games. On Thanksgiving Day thousands gather for a Give-N-Gobble 5K and there are bicycle tours that come through the neighborhood regularly. The Willamette Valley is a popular bicycling area with gorgeous rural terrain. Sherwood is a town that invests in kids and in the performing arts. During the summer months, the local parks host a concert series, outdoor movies, and lively musicals. We have a winter holiday parade; a summer Robinhood Festival: a popular Car Show; and lots of events which build community ~ all a 10-minute walk away. A quarter of a mile away is a shopping and entertaining district with a Target department store and dozens of restaurants.

Yet, we love that our street is remarkably quiet. We try to create habitat for songbirds on our property and have a small raised- vegetable and herb garden which we like to share with guests. Come stay!

I love connecting people to place. And, it's fun to learn all I can about where I live and to share the best of it with others. I am excited to share with you what I love about the Pacific Northwest. Five things I couldn't live without: STORIES in all forms (books, movies, dance, theater, podcasts), MUSIC, GARDENING, COMEDY and good locally roasted COFFEE. When I travel I like to blend in and not feel like a tourist. My favorite travel experiences: renting a small apartment in Florence, Italy and eating gelato every day; spending several days with a peansant family in Optina Pustin, Russia, where they kept a jar of honey and bowl of freshly churned butter on the table to serve with rye bread; and having a dinner with friends in Paris while sitting on Turkish cushions they'd brought back from a recent trip. I've lived in an off-the-grid cabin in Vermont, went to school in Boston, lived in NYC and Princeton, NJ and spent most summers in Maine. The last place I lived before moving to Oregon was coastal Massachusetts. My neighborhood had an old fashioned General Store where we received our mail. I loved making daily stops to our neighborhood farm- stand to buy fresh fruit. I try to bring a little bit of every place I've lived here to Oregon. Welcome to our little corner of the world. I hope you find lots to love about it. I keep the Teaspoon Suite (Hidden by Airbnb) page up to date with lots of fun info on the area. Please check it out! Hope to see you soon.
