Down hill side of house which faces the lakesThe Catlett Gap Homestead Cabin is nestled in a valley approximately half way between Winchester and Berkley Springs. The cabin pre-dates the civil war, and was a homestead deeded to the Catlett's, some of whom still live in the area. At one point the cabin is mentioned in records of Confederate troop movements, and apparently Stonewall Jackson himself once spent the night inside, since it was winter. So if you wish to un-plug and get away from city life this is the ideal setting. Although there are some creature comforts such as wifi, a smart TV, and a full kitchen and bathroom, at night you can't hear anything, and there is no light pollution, so the views of the stars are amazing on a clear night. The logs and cross beams of the cabin are original, but the kitchen, roof, and front porch have been modernized. Because of the location, there are numerous activities to do year round, to include fishing, hunting, bow hunting, camping, skiing at Whitetail, antiquing, the famous spas in Berkeley Springs, Cacapon State Park to go swimming, or horseback riding, hiking, and bowling.

A very unique place, big and scenic property. The buck heads in the living room are definitely a sight to see. However, the bathroom was tiny and the place wasn't very clean.

Response from Anthony:
Yes the bathroom in tiny, and there is not anything we can do about that, without building an addition. It would be helpful if you could be more specific about not being clean. We use a cleaning company since we do not live in the area, and your feedback as to what was missed would be helpful. Also your group left broken bicycle chains in the yard which luckily was found by the cleaning crew before my children cut the grass.

My family and I had a blast we are already planning to go back again.

Response from Anthony:
That's awesome. Late summer/early fall is a great time to come back. Also if you are up for a drive, the is a Black Phantom Fireworks outlet that is about an hour away just in PA. If you want to get some and shoot them off great. The neighbors don't care, just pay attention to the fire warnings.
