I've generally had good experiences with AirBnB, but this was definitely the best. Adolfo has a very nice house with a beautiful garden just a few blocks away from the center of town. He is a very smart, friendly and humble person, and works very hard to promote the customs and traditions of his community. He is a talented painter as well as an agronomist. During the time l stayed in his house he organized an art exposition for a famous Yucatecan painter (Manuel Lezama) as well as some local painters, but still found time to be a great host. He answered all my questions and invited me to many different events in the community. He has a very bright, friendly wife and charming daughter. One day he showed by how to plant dragon fruit on a plot of land he owns.

If you stay with Adolfo and his family you will be guaranteed an amazing experience. He is a very modest man but his work as an agricultural engineer with the University makes him extremely knowledgeable about local plants and culture. His garden is amazing, full of fruits that he generously shares. He also has a small farm near by that he brought us too and harvested fresh jicama that we later enjoyed with limes from his trees and salt. His wife teaches at a bilingual school for Spanish and Mayan and their daughter is adorable. His parents are in their 80s and continue to live in a very traditional manner, their kindness is palpable. I could tell a hundred stories that illustrate their genuine nature, but please, go and stay and see for yourself. A great place to experience authentic Mexican life. Mil gracias Adolfo y familia.

The family was very friendly and we had a warm welcome. They made us feel at home by getting us drinks and they even did our laundry. The room was fine and private and the breakfast was really good with mexican specials. Communication was a bit hard because they didn't speak English and we didn't understand Spanish. The only thing we missed was WiFi.

Adolfo and his family went above and beyond the call of hospitality, making us feel like part of the family and giving us an insider's view of their area. His family home is a sustainability project in action, a welcome oasis of green set in a charming small town. From greeting us at the bus station to helping us find a doctor when our child was sick, Adolfo's family took care of us every step of the way, including picking and eating jicama at his farm after visiting Oxkintok and a nearby cave. He and his wife are deeply knowledgable about the local community and indigenous Mayan language and customs and open to sharing their wisdom with guests. Their intergenerational family set-up make this a perfect place to come with kids or those interested in a familial setting. We had a wonderful time and wish others the same.

If you want an off-the-beaten-path destination and a look into the real yucatecan life than Adolfo and his family are the place to go. Unfortunately we don't speak Spannish and they dont speak English. But we had the feeling they are very interesting people who are highly engaged with the local traditions of the mayan and yucatecan people. Fortunately friendliness and hospitality could not be stopped by the language barrier as we were welcomed with friendly smiles and delicious local foods. The simple guest room was very clean and nice. We can highly recommend this place if you wish to meet people.
