This is a fully equipped, fully functional yurt with all the amenities of home. It's the largest prefab yurt on the market. It's the perfect summer or fall retreat. For those willing to brave the cold it's also available in the winter months.
Located in the magnificent Unaweep canyon, the yurt is surrounded by steep granite walls and blue skies that span in every direction. Just miles away from the Gateway Canyons Resort, this unique area has something for everyone.

The space
Nomadic tribes of Mongolia still live in yurts today. While the modern yurt has adopted a few design options the essence of living in a round structure remains the same.

Surprisingly the yurt is 760 sqft! There is a full bath with running water, hot too! The kitchen is modest but offers all the essentials. There is an oven with stovetop, full size fridge/freezer, microwave and two compartment sink. Dishes, silverware, pots, pans, cooking utensils and of course a French press.

Furnishings include a wooden dining table and chairs. A custom hand carved log bed (queen). A couch/pullout and a rocking chair.

Guest access
The yurt is easy to access, 2wd vehicles will have no problem (with maybe an exception during winter months). There is a driveway with a green gate. Follow the driveway up and around behind the yurt.

Other things to note
The area offers a wide range of activities suitable for all tastes. Whether you're looking to relax or prefer something more adventurous the yurt can be base camp for both.

Hiking/ Horseback riding / biking/ atv tours/ rockclimbing/ wildlife viewing/ Gateway Auto Museum

The Wildcat trailhead is located at mile marker 133. It's a moderately strenuous hike from the canyon floor to the rim of the Uncompaghre plateau. The trail begins in a meadow and meanders up through oak brush, Aspen groves and eventually into the towering Ponderosa pines. Once on top the views of the canyon are plentiful.
If you're looking for more great hiking head south to Gateway Canyons Resort. Definitely check this place out and be sure to ask the guys at the adventure for recommendations.

Location

Gateway, Colorado, United States

This is not your typical neighborhood! There are neighbors up and down the canyon but sometimes miles of space in between. During the day choose from a variety of activities. Everything form hiking, biking, rock climbing, rafting/kayaking and horseback riding. There is a moderate/strenuous hiking trail located across the canyon floor called Wildcat Trail (mile marker 133). The trailhead is marked and parking available in the picnic area. For detailed information see : (URL HIDDEN)

I also encourage guests to visit the Gateway Canyons website- ((URL HIDDEN) The resort not only offers good information about the area but it also specific activities such as horseback riding or off road tours. The "Stables" is a working stable offering guided horseback riding. Ride in majestic valleys and climb through groves of aspen as you explore the west the way early settlers did! Atv tours and jeeps tours are also available through the resort, just inquire at the Adventure Center.

For those looking to explore by vehicle, Moab is a couple hours west of Gateway via John Brown Canyon. A beautiful drive with views of the La sal Mtns. The high desert landscape of the Colorado, Utah border is truly unique.

If you wish to leave the hiking for others and simply want to relax! The yurt offers perfect serenity. Days are filled with cool mountain air and every evening you're dazzled by stunning views with breath taking sunsets. Around dusk you can watch as the elk spill down off the Uncompahgre and into the valley below. You'll witness elk calves splashing in the lake below or herd bulls claiming their territory! There is a set of binoculars for wildlife watching, you never know what you might find! In the spring there are several waterfalls that spill into the Canyon. Don't let me forget Driggs Mansion a couple miles west of the yurt or my favorite swimming hole along west creek! You'll have to ask me about that one!

If I've left something out just ask! I grew up in Western Colorado and I know the area well! I'm happy to help you plan your trip and see that you experience yurt living the way you want! Now is the perfect time to experience Western Colorado!

Colorado is home and it's where I want to be! I grew up in the mountains and canyons of this great state. I don't plan to leave anytime soon. I respect all people and all points of view (mostly!). I thrive on fresh air, the outdoors and l love a good sweat. Traveling is a passion, at home or abroad. I have trekked through the Rockies, Andes and in between. I have gotten lost more than once. I like beaches, tides and gritty little mountain towns. For me it's all about people and the places they live. How they survive and how they enjoy!

During your stay
I will show guests around the yurt whenever possible! I prefer greeting guests at the yurt. However, if the schedule doesn't allow for it I always make certain guests are comfortable settling in on their own. Other than that my interaction will be limited. I am always available by phone should guests have any questions.
