The space

This old beach cottage has had a lot of improvements, but has plenty of funk left.

You drive around the island seventeen beautiful miles to get here and find a fully equipped kitchen and dining room (no dishwasher), two double beds (one in the living room for the view and one in a small bedroom. You'll have a wood stove with a glass door (as well as electric heat) for winter coziness. There is a (shower only) bath that you can enter from the bedroom or the front hall. Big, beautiful decks for eating or just hanging out, low bank beach just steps away where you can launch your kayak or canoe. Quiet neighborhood and all that Orcas Island has to offer: parks, restaurants, cultural events, sailing, hiking, bicycling, swimming, fishing, whale watching.
Note: Price listed includes 10.1% tax. Two night minimum in winter, three night minimum in summer. We have a three night minimum for summer months and for holidays and three day week ends. Interaction with guests

We try to greet guests and see them at check out. Otherwise, degree of interaction depends on their preference. In the past, it has ranged from a quick hello to dinners together and lasting friendships.

Other things to note

We've been using this house as a vacation rental for almost twenty years, staying here ourselves only occasionally for a week or three, but each time there is a full moon, we get a little envious of our guests. It's just a lovely spot to stay in for a while.

This is a tremendous spot on the beach with a great southwest view of Obstruction Island and boating traffic on Rosario Straight. Always lots to see and do on Orcas Island. Jacqueline is a great host and an excellent communicator who went out of her way to provide my family with a great experience.

Amazing views from the deck and living room! It's a house with so much character and a responsive and social host! Moran State Park is a gem and offers great hiking and lake swimming a quick 10 min drive away. We hope to visit again.

A unique property, and part of a vanishing coastal experience, as new homes pop up like mushrooms in the woods and generic high-end shopping infiltrates the little towns, making them all look much the same. Attentive and caring host (Jacqueline, many thanks for your pointers on getting a ferry reservation for the busiest weekend of the year). In an area of gorgeous vistas, the cabin’s panoramic view of Obstruction Pass is a standout.

We loved our stay at Jacqueline's place. It is a cozy cabin in a magical setting right on the beach. My kids loved having fires on the beach and playing in the ocean! Jacqueline was a very friendly and kind host. The cabin itself is old and characterful, well equipped with everything you need. There's an excellent grocery store about 15 mins away in Eastsound so you can easily cook in if you want. Our favorite things to do were whale watching, a hike round mountain lake, making smores on the beach. All in all, a wonderful place to visit if you want some peace and quiet and to get back to nature!
