A refurbished 19th century country cottage between Ludlow and Leominster with easy access to the Welsh Borders, Mid Wales and 'Mortimer Country' and ideally situated for walkers and cyclists, foodies and booklovers, as well as being convenient for the Severn Valley Railway and many other heritage and cultural sites. After an enjoyable day out and about, this is the ideal place to relax with a glass of wine or local cider, either inside or, weather permitting, outside in the organic garden.

The space
High Bank Cottage has its own access with a useful porch (ideal for boots and dogs !) in which you will find local maps and information. You will have exclusive use of your own sitting room and fully equipped kitchen (redecorated for 2020). The cosy living room has a brand new Smart HDTV with netflix and DVD player together with a selection of books and games, perfect for a relaxing night in. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms (one double and one single) and a recently refurbished shower room with WC.

Guest access
There is ample parking at the front of the house with access to the garden and an outside sitting area with its own garden furniture. Guests also have access to lockable storage for bicycles. Talking of accessing space, High Bank Cottage is in 'dark sky' country and guests can request the use of our astronomical reflector telescope and star charts on starry and moonlit nights.

Other things to note
We provide a welcome box with home-made bread and cakes and locally-sourced milk, butter and eggs as well as complimentary local beer and cider and (not very local !) wine. Please let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements and we will try to accommodate these accordingly.

Hello again ! With the easing of the corvid-19 lockdown, during which we've done some more refurbishments to the house and garden, we're now taking bookings again at High Bank Holiday Cottage. As well as the usual home-made cake and bread, we will be providing extra cleaning and hygiene materials, including mask, gloves, hand sanitiser and anti-viral cleaning fluid and wipes for all guests. We are also doing an enhanced clean and make-over between guests so that you rest assured that High Bank Holiday Cottage will be as safe and clean as we can possibly make it. We will be changing and sanitising the pillows in the bedrooms between each booking and alternating the existing bedding, duvets and pillows with a new set we've just bought. However, if you would like to bring your own bedding / pillows, we are more than happy to accommodate this. Similarly, whilst we alway provide new toiletries for every booking, we don't mind if you would prefer to bring your own at this time. Because of the need for us to undertake additional cleaning , etc in between guests, we are currently asking all guests to check out by 10 am on day of departure. Other news for 2020 is that we have the parking area extended and completely resurfaced and we have remade the front gardens as well as continuing with our redecoration of all of High Bank - OK, we haven't installed the new Lakeland slate house signs because they're still stuck in quarantine up in Cumbria ! About High Bank Holiday Cottage Having moved to the idyllic Shropshire / Herefordshire border (literally) from Manchester in 2016, we are loving our new life in the countryside. We look forward to welcoming you to our cottage in the village of Richards Castle and as enthusiastic travellers ourselves, we recognise the importance of a cosy and comfortable base to explore the local area. We like walking, gardening and cooking and in the short time we have lived here, we have been developing the gardens and are now growing and using our own fruit and vegetables. Want to know what to do with white currants ? Make wine ! We really enjoy meeting people and as hosts, we are happy to share our knowledge and interests with you but we also know when to leave you to do your own thing !

During your stay
We are happy to chat and give advice on what to do or where to go and most guests have shared a drink with us during their stay. However, if you wish to relax and have time to yourselves, we are there should you need anything.
