Seaglass House is a perfect hideaway for seaglass hunters or anyone planning a two night or longer stay in Seaham. Seaglass House is within walking distance of downtown Seaham and the famous seaglass beaches and provides easy access to Durham, Hartlepool, Newcastle and is only a two and a half hour drive from Scotland.

The space
Seaglass House is located in the area known as Seaham Harbor and within sight of the sea. The house is about a 15-18 minute stroll to the center of Seaham and the “town” Beach and another 5 minutes on to the main, larger beach. Or if time is precious, you can catch the local bus every 10 minutes a few yards from the front door which will take you to the downtown seafront. Taxi Service is very affordable- currently less than $5 or about £3.80 anywhere in Seaham city limits.

A generously proportioned restored Victorian property, Seaglass House is able to accommodate up to five people in three bedrooms (beds are US sizes: 1 queen, 1 single and 1 king -the room with the king bed is only offered on the occasion when a 3rd room is required). It boasts two bathrooms and a large comfortable lounge/dining room. Seaglass House is a great place to unwind after a day walking the beach or sightseeing.

Seaglass House is owned by avid beachcomber and travel enthusiast Michelle Beach and her sweet 10 pound dog Kazzy, from Alaska. The entire property is available to rent in the months they are in Alaska or traveling.

The kitchen at Seaglass House is ready for the avid cook with everything an aspiring chef requires, including a double oven. If you don't fancy cooking or going out for dinner, you are only a few yards from a local Fish and Chip shop that also sells chicken and pizza, or a little further along you will find Dawdon Curry House. A short stroll in the opposite direction will bring you to a good local Chinese takeaway. Directly next door is a great little convenience store with decent prices, perfect for that late night snack or another bottle of wine.

If you wish to take a break from the beach, or if you prefer to go sightseeing, the local bus, The Drifter, is handy. You may enjoy a trip into Sunderland, where you can visit the National Glass Center, or you could hop on the local train to Hartlepool to see the art gallery, or spend time at the historic quay on board HMS Trincomalee, the oldest UK warship still afloat. The gorgeous and historic town of Durham, with its "walking only" picturesque charms, is a hour train ride or a thirty minute drive away. The famous Durham Heritage Coastal Trail is within walking distance...how far you want to walk is up to you- it stretches 11 miles from Seaham to Crimdon.

Depending on your preferred mode of travel, you might choose to come by train, in which case the local station is just a short distance away -a quick five minute cab ride. If you come by rental car, we can provide map co-ordinates, or an actual map. If you fly into Newcastle Airport, you can hop on the Metro all the way to Sunderland Interchange and then join The Drifter which will bring you almost to the door. If you feel tired after your journey to the airport you may prefer to take a cab directly to Seaham. Our local taxi companies have a fixed transfer rate between Newcastle airport and Seaham. It is $43 currently if you book in advance. We advise not to take a metered cab as who knows how much that would be!

Guest access
A booking of Seaglass House means guests will have private use of the entire house- in addition to the appropriate bedroom(s) you have booked you will have use of both baths, spacious living room/dining area and a separate kitchen.

Other things to note
We fell in love with this home the first time we walked in. We became the proud owners in September 2017. As Americans we wanted the quintessential English home. Seaglass House dates from the early 1900s. It is lovely with its tall ceilings, crown molding, rose medallions around the chandeliers and spacious rooms. Although the house was in good shape for its age we spent several months updating and restoring various aspects. We installed a second bathroom so that the home works well for multiple guests.
*Please note that Seaglass House is a non-smoking property including electronic smoking devices. Please do not smoke inside or outside on the property grounds. If you are inclined to smoke please step through the front gate out onto the sidewalk.

I was born and raised in the state of Alaska and have traveled extensively throughout my life. I have always been fascinated with meeting and getting to know new people and learning about new cultures. I worked as an elementary school teacher and principal for 25 years before retiring. I purchased my Airbnb rental and seasonal home in Seaham, on the NE coast of England, four years ago. My sisters and I originally visited Seaham to search for seaglass. We had a wonderful time finding seaglass but even more importantly I fell in love with the Seaham community, the coastal trails, the location and the people that live in this lovely area of the world! The first time I walked in to Seaglass House I knew it was “the one”. As an American I wanted something quintessentially English. This beautiful Victorian home has all the touches that make it just that! I added an extra bathroom and made a few other modifications to an already wonderful home to make it even more comfortable. I rent Seaglass House out during the six months I am away from England either traveling some other area of the world or visiting my home in the United States. If you choose to visit the NE coast of England on the hunt for some of the gorgeous glass that can be found on the area beaches, or for any other reason, I hope you will book a stay at Seaglass House.
