Tucked away beneath a copse of oak and ash trees at Birkins Croft in semi-rural Derbyshire stands Bairn, our unique holiday cabin ten years in the making.

As part of your very own private woodland, you'll have use of an open-air kitchen, a bathroom in a bespoke shepherd's hut and the option to book a massage to completely relax and unwind.

Hand-built by Tim and his dad Rob using traditional carpentry, it is our ongoing project and a truly unforgettable place to stay.

The space
Birkins Croft is part of a working smallholding and offers the chance to reconnect with nature, rural life and the great outdoors, without leaving cosy comfort behind.

With a log stove, electricity, a fully equipped open-air kitchen and a hot shower, luxury in the Bairn is never far away. You'll sleep in a king size oak bed so there's no need to bring any bedding with you.

An additional guest is welcome at £15pn which includes the use of a mattress and fitted sheet if required. Please ensure you bring your own duvet and pillow.

*This listing is for use of Bairn, Bothy and Netty. For groups of up to five guests which includes the use of Clan, please search for our other listing: The Trees at Birkins Croft - Five Guests*

Our good friend Sarah King is fully qualified and offers a range of therapies in the privacy of your own little cabin in the woods, making your stay with us even more special. Her price list can be found in our photo album - simply drop Sarah a message prior to your stay and you can arrange a time to suit.

Our location makes Birkins Croft the perfect place to explore Derbyshire, Staffordshire, and the nearby Peak District.

Whether you're looking for a romantic hideaway, a relaxing retreat or an active break, we're sure you'll fall in love with woodland life in The Trees.

*Please note - as of April 2020, work has begun on a development within earshot of The Trees. Whilst you are likely to hear this during the day, work stops late afternoon/in the evenings. Whilst it cannot be seen you may hear the sound of machinery reversing and it is important to make you aware of this so you can plan your days accordingly.*

Guest access
Whilst staying with us, The Trees are yours and yours alone.

Guests have their own entrance to The Trees so you can come and go as you please. You may well be welcomed by Meg the dog so be prepared to give her tummy a tickle!

Other things to note
We ask that you respect our neighbours and keep noise down after 11. You can bring your four-legged friend but please bear in mind Bairn is carpeted and you're in a woodland - the deposit will go towards any excessive cleaning that might be needed as a result. Meg the on-site dog loves everyone, (no matter how many legs) but please consider the fact that she will be around. The Trees is situated within a working small holding in a semi-rural area, so there may be the occasional tractor rumbling nearby! You're welcome to have a fire in the designated firepit - afterall what's a glamping holiday without one?

Whilst we provide the basics - you'll still need to treat this as a self-catering holiday and pack accordingly.

The Trees are part of a working small holding, Birkins Croft, which is also home to Birkins Cycles, an independent cycle workshop. There's great cycling out the gate and you're only 20 minutes from The Peak District. Whilst the site isn't as isolated as some, once you're tucked up in Bairn and listening to some music, you'll forget about everything else.

I designed and built the structures in The Trees with my dad, Rob, who was a talented and patient woodwork teacher not only to his pupils but to me as well. I also own and run a bicycle workshop and I am a qualified bricklayer. I grew up learning the skills acquired from my dad to make the beautiful structures you'll be using during your stay. I am always making something so you'll likely see me around and about with a pencil behind my ear creating the next thing. I love a natter and to hear people's stories and I'm usually found with my English Cocker Spaniel, Meg, by my side. I believe that everyone from all wakes of life should feel there is a place where they are welcome without judgement and along with with my mum Lynne and my brother James we can't wait to welcome you to The Trees at Birkins Croft!

During your stay
We're easy to get hold of if you need us. The Trees are still in their sapling years so you may even be asked if you'd like to make something to leave behind for future guests. We'd love for you to leave your creative mark and you'll likely see us around and about making something new and exciting for the site. We completely respect your privacy and want you to treat the space like it was your own.
