Gornal Ground House is a five bedroom Victorian Cumbrian farmhouse, sleeping ten and situated at the entrance to the beautiful, unspoiled Duddon Valley; an ideal place from which to explore the Western and Central Fells of the Lake District. Newly renovated, the house is set in large enclosed private gardens and provides an idyllic, child and dog friendly rural retreat for families or groups of friends.

The space
Set over three floors, Gornal Ground has bright rooms, large windows fitted with wooden shutters, Lakeland slate or stripped wooden floors downstairs and the comfort of carpet upstairs. It is furnished with much loved family antique furniture.

Downstairs consists of a large sitting and dining room, containing a dining table that will comfortably seat ten, a family sitting room with TV and a well-equipped farmhouse kitchen. Each of these rooms have working open fireplaces, including an original Victorian range in the kitchen.

Upstairs, the first floor contains the master bedroom, with king size bed and far reaching views over the fells, a double bedroom with cast-iron bed, a twin room with long single beds and a large family bathroom with bath and separate shower.

The second floor consists of an equally spacious king size bedroom and twin bedroom, and a second bathroom, also with bath and separate shower.

The secluded gardens include lawns with a terrace for outside dining and plenty of room for games and adventure. A table that seats 10 and a barbecue are available for guests.

We provide fresh white cotton bed linen and towels and each bedroom contains a chest-of-drawers and hanging space.

The laundry room, situated downstairs in the cellar contains a washing machine, tumble dryer, utility sink, iron, ironing board and clothes rack.

Walk from your front door or explore the local fells, which include Coniston Old Man and Scafell Pike. Relive 'Swallows and Amazons' by swimming or sailing on nearby Coniston Water and Lake Windermere, or visit the nearby historic houses of Brantwell House, Muncaster Castle and Holker Hall. Grizedale Forest has miles of cycle paths and a 'Go-Ape', and climbers can ascend the magnificent Dow Crag above Goat Tarn. The house is located fives minutes drive from the historic village of Broughton in Furness, with its award winning artisan bakery, independent butcher, delicatessen and numerous pubs. We highly recommend the Blacksmith Arms at Broughton Mills, also five minutes drive from the house. The local bustling market town of Ulverston has a wealth of independent shops, restaurants and a large Booths supermarket.

Having been born and brought up in the Lake District, my husband Nick was determined that our two daughters should also experience the freedom and beauty of the Lakeland fells. As my husband's career frequently takes us abroad, we would love to share our home with you and hope you enjoy exploring the area as much as we do. Nick and I run the Air BnB bookings together, so please expect an answer from either of us.

All the very best,

Rebecca
