About this listing
Our recently-built home has amazing views of the laguna and mountains. Patio opens right up to the canal, where you can take our canoes for a meander to the lakes. Lots of deck space and open floor plan. Friendly neighbors on local street.
The house is designed to inspire and help you relax in a natural setting. Our home is situated in the safe, local community of Calle 6 just off Callejon de la Loma. It takes only 15 minutes to walk to Cabarete beach. The lagoon in front of the home is designated as a National Park. We have a canoe that is available to you for use. Moto-taxi is also a very popular way to get around the area. It costs a $1 to get to any part of Cabarete.
My husband and I are both doing non-profit work in Haiti and the house is our place to recharge and rest. We have an 3 year old daughter, so we look forward to spending quality family time here when we can. We feel very happy and safe in this neighborhood. We would love to live here full time, but unfortunately our work is keeping us away. Until we can spend more time in Cabarete, we decided to share our home with others who would love to experience living in a real Dominican neighborhood while enjoying the beauty of the region.
Our personal assistant Genesis lives close by and she will make sure that you feel welcome and have everything you might need. If you are looking for an inspiring and restful space that is peaceful yet is a part of the local community you will enjoy staying here.
Most of our personal belongings have been stowed away, but you will find everything you need in terms of kitchen and bath supplies and of course freshly made beds ready for your arrival. The farmer that we use when we are in Cabarete usually comes to the house with a full truckload of fresh fruits and vegetables every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11 am. If you wish to use his convenient services please let us know and we will let him know to include you on his route. His produce is always fresh and it comes at great prices.
This is a three story dwelling sleeping 6 maximum. It is best suited for families or two couples (three maximum) as there are no traditional bedrooms - the main level has a comfortable couch that folds out and sleeps 2 and a small full bathroom, upstairs is the master bedroom & bathroom (no doors provided, only a wooden screen) and on the third level there is a loft with a queen bed. The house is child friendly. We have a small children library/playroom downstairs.
You will be able to take full advantage of the entire, spacious home and the following:
Shared pool & patio
Interaction with guests
We commute back and forth between Haiti & Dominican Republic. While we are in Haiti, we open our home up for rental. We are currently a family of 3...our little baby girl was born in Sosua, Dominican Republic.
Genesis, our trusted friend and helper, will be at our home to greet you when you arrive and answer any questions you might have. She speaks only Spanish but if you have specific questions you can ask me and I will make sure to answer and coordinate as necessary with her. Genesis can also provide baby sitting upon request if needed. She has been caring for our daughter when we are in Cabarete, and she is responsible and very loving.
Other things to note
This is a great house for families to enjoy time together. If you have children, we can make available to you some baby items (pack n play, beach stroller, high chair, toys/books). Usually these items are stored away, but if we know that children are coming, we will prepare them.
Plenty of open space for yoga, pilates, art, meditation. The second floor also opens out onto a deck. We love sleeping outside on the deck and gazing up at the stars.
The local kids love to swim in the lagoon in front of the house, so there is usually noise and laughter of children at play during the afternoon's hot hours.
Even though the local electricity supply varies daily, we have batteries/inverter-charger that take care of lighting and outlets at all hours of the day. You will always have electricity for lights (and laptops, cell chargers, etc) , but when the local electricity is off, our inverter-charger/batteries do not charge the hot-water or fridge/freezer. So, there is no hot water and the fridge during those hours. However, the fridge keeps cool and the freezer stays frozen for a while. The local electricity has a very regular schedule, and is usually not off for more than 6 hours. Our family has not had a problem ever with spoiled food, and we love to cook and keep the fridge stocked!
There is a washing machine for your use with the help of Genesis.
The pool is always full. It is 4-5 feet deep, and it is perfect for cooling off in the hot time of the day. The patio and pool are shared with our other apartments.
Strict no unregistered guest policy. Since this is our family home, we want to know who is coming in and out. If you plan to have guests, please let us know when you make your reservation.

My husband, Demeter, and I are avid travellers, yogis and creative spirits. We have a daughter, Kalina, who is now 2 years old. We spend our time between Haiti where we work in a non-profit organization & Dominican Republic. We are passionate about social justice issues, progressive education, yoga, design and art. We love this island and would love to share our home with you! We will be happy to provide you with tips to make your stay the best possible.
Demeter is from Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and I'm from Philadelphia, US. Our daughter was born in Dominican Republic, but we hope that she grows up learning Spanish, Haitian Creole, French, English & Bulgarian.
