A very cute little house in a quiet spot, tastefully decorated. Very clean. A sweet little patio area at the back. Tight space for a family of five but we only stayed a night so this was not a problem. A ten minute drive from the lovely centre of La Rochelle. The host communicated before arrival that we would have to rent sheets and towels. There was no mention of this on the listing. The listing also states that the booking includes essentials. When I sought clarification the host also said we would have to make our own beds. For your information all future potential guests: I checked with Air bnb who informed me that since this listing has ticked essentials as available, any guest who books is fully entitled to these basics. They are NOT considered extra. They also advised me that if the host refused to provide any of the above that we would be entitled to a reduction or to request the host to cancel the booking from their end. I sent this information to the host along with the link. Valentine then finally agreed to provide us with the basics, only because she considered we were blackmailing her, but found it incomprehensible, saying she has had nothing but happy guests for the last 3 years. It really felt like we had asked for champagne and chocolate and not towels and a made-up bed, which we were entitled to. When I checked reviews, I discovered that air bnb have had to intervene before due to similar circumstances. So the host should be fully informed already that it is not appropriate to charge guests for towels and sheets.
So... I had to fight for what we were entitled to and the host still hasn't acknowledged that towels, sheets and a made bed are basic essentials. However after this awkwardness, everything WAS in order on our arrival, beds made, towels in place, and Valentine continued to communicate with me with courtesy and warmth.
