--Newly renovated, sunny 1-bedroom apt on 2nd floor of 4-unit building. New appliances, washer/dryer, queen size bed, sofa couch, back deck, private garden, fire-pit and BBQ. Walk to Eastern Market & H St.

--Not an English basement apartment. It's on the 2nd floor with large windows over deck and back garden.

--But it's also not a post Covid-19 party spot. The apartment is situated amongst long-term tenants, and so if you're looking for a place to blow off steam then please keep searching.

The space
Private apartment with full kitchen, 55" smart t.v and wi-fi, a queen size pull-out sofa with 3" memory foam topper, and a queen size bed in the separate bedroom with a new Nectar mattress, pillows, sheets and duvet. There is also a queen-sized air mattress (with fresh sheets, pillows, and blankets) if needed for additional guests.

A favorite with guests is the walk-in shower with a built in bench, a rainfall air-injected shower-head, and stained glass sky-light. It's a total spa experience.

We just finished the new wooden deck in the back that opens up right at the kitchen door, and is perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks. We also just fenced in the back-yard for more privacy and security, and are currently working on the garden area and installing a fire-pit. Feel free to light up a (small) fire at night or use the barbecue whenever you like.

Parking: I'll provide you with a visitor's parking pass and it will be waiting for you in the apartment when you arrive. You won't have any problem finding parking close to the apartment, and I almost always find a space directly in front, and only occasionally need to pull around the corner. I know this sounds odd for DC, but because there are no large apartment buildings in the neighborhood, and because most of my neighbors pave in their back yards for parking, that leaves ample space on the street. You'll find parking a breeze!

Where you’ll be

Washington, District of Columbia, United States

The apartment is nicely situated between 16th and 17th St. NE, which means it's located about 17 blocks from the Capitol Building (1.7 miles on Google Maps), 10 minutes from H. St with lots of cafes, bars, dances spots, theater, and restaurants, 1 mile to Lincoln Park, and 1.2 miles to the lively Eastern Market. Public transportation (including the free Streetcar on H. St) is close at hand, and bike-shares are just around the corner. The D6 bus line that will take you downtown and to Dupont Circle is one block away, and the closest metro stop is only 0.7 miles away.

Regarding Safety: We have lived in this neighborhood for about 10 years and have never had any problems ourselves--but it's important to be alert of your surroundings, especially at night if you're getting home late or checking in when it's dark. The neighbors on the street (and in the back) are very friendly and we look out for each other, but if you're not accustomed to city life and happen to be leaving or coming back late, then it's best to use Uber or Lyft until you feel safe.

Check out my friend Renee's Guide to DC. She lives just around the corner and knows all the good places to eat, drink, and visit in the neighborhood: https://www.airbnb.com/things-to-do/rooms/7706099

I'm a philosophy professor at a liberal arts college near Washington DC (St. Mary's College), and my wife and co-host "Am" is an artist originally from Thailand. We recently returned from living in Bangladesh for 4 years where I was working to help create a new university for women (Asian University for Women). We both spend lots of time in SE Asia, and I take students to Thailand for 3 weeks during the summer as a class on Engaged Buddhism. For the past 6 months we've been really busy renovating the apartments in our building--knocking down walls putting up drywall, tiling kitchens and bathrooms, and other fun things like that. Our summer project is to turn the backyard into an area with a colorful garden, a fire-pit, and a creative space for making things. You're free to use the space to hang out, pick chiles from the garden, or make something creative to hang on the fence!

During your stay
It's a 4-unit apartment building and so you have long-term tenants as your neighbors. My wife and I live in the next apartment in case you happen to need anything, but all of us who live here are sane, quiet, low-key, and respectful of everyone's privacy. It's doubtful you'll even see the other tenants other than in passing, and though I cherish my privacy my wife and I are always available if you happen to need anything, such as recommendations for places to eat, drink, or sightsee.
