The space

It's been described as “heaven on earth," “an architectural gem," and “the best home on the Californian Central coast," and when you visit The Nirvana House and Ranch you immediately know why. Set high on a hilltop in a verdant canyon in Goleta, California and Twenty to thirty minutes north of Santa Barbara, this modern, multi-level dream home not only boasts panoramic vistas of the Pacific Ocean and Los Padres Mountains, but brings the outdoors in through enormous windows and spacious, flowing rooms. Surrounding the house, is 234 acres of lush foliage, oak groves and large avocado orchards attracting a wealth of wildlife, such as bears, deer, mountain lions, silver foxes, ravens and hawks.

The house includes a car-port for 4 cars.. This home is designed for family reunions, get-together's, and entertaining guests and hence the spacious living space.
There are two enormous sized, beautiful, iron crafted glass tables in the dining room, that would have no trouble seating up to two dozen family and guests.
The roomy, state-of the-art gourmet kitchen with a grand center island is the most popular communal space in the home.
Heading from the dining area through the living room, you will find comfortable, black leather couches and chairs and a fireplace. This is the most favored spot to watch both the sunrise and spectacular California sunsets with ocean views. Nearby is the chic bar, designed entirely from scrap metal from construction.
On the floor above dining and living area is the cozy master bedroom with its huge balcony with gorgeous views of the garden and canyon below, all the way to the Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands. The master bathroom has a two person Jacuzzi with shower and double glass bowl sinks. The den adjacent to the master bedroom affords ample room for rest and recreation. Here, just as everywhere throughout the house, walls are adorned with stunning Indian, Egyptian and African artifacts, sculptures and paintings. There is an additional bedroom with 2 single beds with attached bathroom at this level. The circular, theater-style family entertainment area, complete with colorful floor cushions and a big-screen TV is where one can relax, watch TV, movies or play games with family and guests. The most colorful sunsets can be also witnessed from here.

Opening up the glass doors to the back patio, a lap pool (pool will be filled after California is out of drought conditions) which provides space to entertain, as does the stone-laden courtyard on the north side of the abode, where a replica of a 4,000-year-old bronze statuette atop a five-tiered fountain has been placed. The largest wedding of 320 persons took place here in the summer of 2002.

Leading from the family room is the half moon area of the house, and two additional elevated bedrooms shared bathroom. One of the bedrooms (Lavender) has eastern King bed with a walk in closet. The other one (Sage) has a full bed, also with a walk in closet.
Below these bedrooms is the huge exercise room with an 8 person Jacuzzi-Spa.
For quiet moments, as well as various cultural ceremonies, guests can escape to the secluded Mediation room atop the peak of a hill behind the main house, from where one takes in incredible vistas of the coast, valley and mountain ranges. In front of this meditation room is a stately globe, carrying the symbols of diverse world religions.

The owners live off the main house with independent entrance and a common wall. The grandma apartment has a common wall, which is privacy glass block wall, also with an independent entrance and rented to permanent tenants. The guest house and studio is rented to permanent tenants who are 200 feet away from main house with independent structure and parking. Interaction with guests is as required by the guests at arrival, during their stay and at departure

Sleep restfully in pin drop silence (with the back ground noise only of the birds chirping and the frogs croaking during rains) so you can feel renewed in paradise. You will also be just minutes from fine restaurant dining, shopping and walks on the nearby El Capitan State Beach. Gaviota Coast and Santa Barbara are internationally renowned for its surf beaches and is a beach side resort. With first class quality at very reasonable prices, Nirvana Ranch is luxury you can afford.

Live on your own secluded knoll with southern exposure, and spectacular, panoramic, unobstructed sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, Channel Islands, and mountains. Watch the sunrise and sunset while enjoying the sanctuary, peace and quiet from every room in the home. Bask in the sun above the fog.

Cycle, walk or jog, the best picturesque mountain roads, while viewing the Pacific Ocean, right out your front gate, with no traffic passing you. Nila was extremely responsive, hospitable, communicative, and accommodating. She greeted us at the door and had wine and chocolate waiting for us. She took her time explaining how to access special features of the house, and even made a pit stop into Goleta to pick up dinner for us, completely unexpected! She has such a warmth and kindness to her, and it's felt throughout the house. The house sits at the top of a mountain and the actual architecture and view is something that must be experienced in person to appreciate. Many of the girls in the group are yogis or appreciate being in nature, so the venue was perfect. I would describe it as a "glass house" where you feel like you are outside and connected with nature. The sunsets and sunrises are phenomenal. If you are looking for a peaceful get-away, I would highly recommend this house. Thank you a million times over Nila for being a special host and for your warmth and hospitality.

The house is really fancy and modern, but to be honest the service is not good. We were charged extra 252 dollars called SOCAL fee to Santa Barbara county which I'm not sure what it is. And when our first car arrived at night around 9:30pm, the host did not let guests get into their house not even the living room, since the person who booked the room did not arrive yet. I thought this was really unfriendly. Moreover, we wanted to use their washer and dryer but they said they only provided the service to the guests who stay at least five days. This sounds unreasonable because we also payed service and utility fee. We were asked to clean the house before we left, even asked to change bed sheet and pillowcase. So what the service and cleaning fee for? We spent maybe 300 dollars called cleaning fee. Even though the house design is good, overall quality of this experience was not perfect.

Response from Nila:
Rui! The transient occupancy tax was clearly talked about in our communication on the Airbnb forum. This is mandated by Santa Barbara county, that is highly inconvenient. But as operators we have to collect and submit to the county. This is also clearly mentioned both in the house rules and description. As far as arriving late and the person who booked should have clearly communicated the very late arrival and that they were not going to be present. We have had the experience of letting the guests in and later the person who booked has disputed the walk through. We have once again clearly mentioned on our house rules about usd of laundry for bookings over five days. This clearly was a 2 night booking. We would have been more than willing should this have been requested ahead of time. We ask you to remove your sheets and pillow cases when you leave. This is not included in the cleaning fee. The dice if the house is huge and that cleaning fee is for cleaning. We hope this clarifies the misunderstanding of the check in, the TOT and the cleaning fee.

Beautiful house in a secluded location about 30 minutes from Santa Barbara. Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and ocean from all parts of the house. We loved the swings on the front porch - very relaxing.

Please read the fine print. the owners DO live at the house and will walk around the premises while you're staying there, which made my guest very uncomfortable. the pictures they posted looked fabulous, but when we got there, the house looked old and rustic in a horrible way. i was definitely disappointed in the pool area where there were spider webs everywhere. they claimed the architecture was one of a kind and once hosted a wedding, but i cannot see beyond the filthiness of the outside of the house. the view was absolutely breathtaking, but i do not recommend renting this house. i understand that this is their home, but by listing their home on airbnb i expected more privacy and not have helicopter parents watching our every move. i would get text messages regarding how many guest were staying because the owners would walk around the cars to count how many people stayed there. the owner texted me she would charge me extra if i had extra guest staying past 4 am, which is complete garbage because i already paid her the $3000 for the weekend. i informed her there was one extra person, which she charged me...but also challenged the honesty of my character. so I paid extra, but i was highly offended by Nila asking me if i was telling the truth. to others who are looking to book this place .. please please do not rent this house! it's like renting a house for the weekend with your parents literally in the next room.

Response from Nila:
It's extremely unfortunate that Phong had a negative experience during his stay however, our home is revered not only by our family friends and community, but also by the numerous Airbnb guests that have enjoyed our home both before and after his visit. Many of the issues Phong encountered are ones that could have been avoided by reading our listing and acting according to the rules outlined. 1. We clearly mention on Airbnb that this house, being on a secluded mountain top is inevitably surrounded by both critters and wild life. Despite this, the inside of our home is maintained and cleaned with regular upkeep from both from cleaning services and pest control Addressing Phong's issue with the pool area, as listed on Airbnb, at the moment our pool is not filled due to the extreme drought in Southern California over the past 5 years. Due to this, along with the fact that our property depends on a well, the water tables are not high enough to keep the pool filled. With an empty, concrete pool, it is unavoidable to have spider webs develop, however, this has not affected our previous visitors' stays as being empty, there is no need to be inside the pool. Spider webs around the pool are cleared prior to every visitor however, it is impossible for us to clean webs developed throughout the time of a visitors stay. Before Phong's arrival, the home was professionally cleaned and organized by 2 ladies who worked for 8 hours each, a total of 16 hours. I, along with their boss oversaw their work throughout the day; the home was spotless. Our respect for the needs of our visitors was not reciprocated. In fact, the kitchen was left filthy by Phong and the group. Despite our house rule listed on Airbnb of not wearing outdoor shoes inside the home, we found an ample amount of sand and dirt in and around the kitchen area after their departure. 2. Phong's inquiry was to spend a quiet weekend with his professional Pharmacist colleagues to discuss business matters. During the first night of Phong's stay, our neighbors called to complain about screaming of men and women coming from our home at around 1am. At this point I texted Phong and reiterated house rules as described on Airbnb. The noise continued until after 4 am. The next day I texted Phong to respect the noise ordinance of midnight. 3. Phong was not present at check in. 2 cars arrived with 3 persons on each car who checked in. There was a third car with 4 gentleman who we showed the way to the property. So far a total of 10 people had arrived all of which had either checked in with us or met us on their way to the property. With 10 people already at our home, and Phong yet to come, it was clear that they intended for 11 people to stay at our home despite only registering and paying for 10 visitors. Figuring this out did not require "helicopter parents" as Phong mentioned, but rather, simple addition. Normally, we rely on the honor system and hope that guests will register and pay for the correct number of guests. However, with the blatant and obvious arrival of 11 guests instead of 10, we decided to approach Phong about it. When questioned about the total number of persons visiting the house, Phong made the decision to not willingly come forward and tell us about the extra individual staying in the house. We as owners live on the property along with 3 other tenants. This is clearly mentioned on our description though, with a huge property and separated units for each tenant, privacy is rarely an issue. It seems as if Phong and his group were looking for a place to party and thought our home to be perfect as it is in a remote location. However, they did not read the entire listing which included guidelines for quiet hours, the wildlife present around the property, as well as the presence of myself and my husband along with our 3 tenants who all live on the property. Phong decided to forgo reading the listing and instead tried to use it as a party home, failing to respect our home along with our neighbors. As can be seen through our numerous positive reviews of our home an property, Phong is an exception. We rarely have issues of cleanliness, noise or privacy with our Airbnb guests. We are happy to rent to people who are respectful and understand what is required of them when they rent a private home

We got Nirvan residence for three nights for a family trip. It's located on top of hill with breathtaking views. Residence is fully equipped with essentials needed for daily needs eg: cooking etc. Rooms are good size with good quality bedding Kitchen is huge and if you plan to cook make sure to take raw material. It's 30 min (approx) from stores (drive through hills) so it's not easy to drive down for a quick trip. Internet is spotty but it's expcted when there are no real service providers and satellite is used. I would definitely recommend this place for family vacation !

This is a lovely, modern home with amazing views, large common spaces, and a beautiful kitchen. We rented it for UCSB graduation weekend and it worked really well for our large group (there were 8 of us). It's a nice big place that allowed us all to be together to celebrate. The house is located far away from everything - definitely part of it's charm - but be prepared because "running to the store" for something is easier said than done (I think the nearest store was about 30 minutes away.) Lots of windows makes for beautiful views, but the house gets very hot. Most rooms are individually air conditioned, but the hallways and bathrooms were not, so they got uncomfortably hot (we were there in June.) The bedroom doors have external door locks, so it's too easy to lock yourself out - be forewarned. We got locked out of a bedroom, but the key that our host advised us to try snapped off in the lock (it was the wrong key). We ended up paying $95 for a locksmith to come out and open the door for us. Despite the issues, it was a great weekend and I would recommend this property for large group get-togethers in the Santa Barbara area.

Response from Nila:
Leigh Anne! The key breaking in the lock is very unfortunate event. We had to get you a locksmith to open the locked door. This is the first time in the last 3 years of Airbnb guests. Also the heat was unusual fir this time of the year. We have HVAC on demand in each area. The nearest grocery stores are 17 minutes away, that include Costco, Bevmo, Trader Joe's, sprouts and Albertsons. Thank you for recommending our home.
