Location

Gilcrux, Cockermouth , Lake District, United Kingdom

Gilcrux is a small Village just 4 miles outside the bustling Market Town of Cockermouth on the fringes of The Western Lake District. We have two Pubs, The Masons Arms & The Barn & Bistro. Both Pubs serve hearty delicious meals with locally sourced produce. The Barn n Bistro have a wide selection of Whiskeys, Gins & an ever changing array of Guest Ales to wet the appetite. The Sunday lunch there is in my opinion the best in Cumbria!

There is also a small Caravan Park, including a small Shop/Post office which is open daily from 9 am - 11 am selling newspapers and basic provisions.

Cockermouth is 4 miles away, Maryport is 6 Miles from Gilcrux and Workington a little further on for those wishing to shop. Carlisle is 35 minutes drive which is a lovely town for shopping too with lots of cafes and restaurants, quite a good place to visit these days with lots of things to see and do.

There are several Cafes, Restaurants, Takeaways, two Supermarkets , two garden centres, Auctioneers, and a wealth of Pubs to take your pick from in Cockermouth.

Cockermouth has many attractions to visit, one being the Birth place of William Wordsworth, Jennings Brewery, countless Gift Shops and a few Antique Shops to boot.

The Market Town of Keswick is a mere 20 Minutes drive away whilst the Coast, namely the Village of Allonby which has fantastic beaches for walking on is just 10 minutes drive too, or you can go north on the Coastal route up to Silloth or South towards Wasdale and Ulverston.

There are a wealth of good walks to be had around here with spectacular Sun Sets to be had along the way.

Should you pick Gilcrux for your next trip you will not be disappointed, it is often heard that people come back again and again to stay here purely because of the friendly reception the locals give, the great food and hospitality on offer and the fantastic location.

I have recently retired from working full time in IT for the Government in the North East of England have since moved to Gilcrux in Cumbria. This has been a dream of mine for many years, I am passionate about The Lake District and all it has to offer. Gilcrux is truly a little Gem of a place and I am so enjoying living here! The locals are great and I have wonderful neighbours too,2 great local pubs, and I’m on the doorstep to the Lakes and the lovely Solway Coast. Really I am in my element and one day I had the idea that I would like to share what I have here and also welcome people to the area, helping Tourism for the village and Cumbria as a whole. If Country Cottage is your thing then you will love it here! I have a great knowledge of the Lake District and I know some really nice little off track areas to visit that are my little secrets, if you’re lucky I’ll share them with you as a treat.
