Dear guests,

We are in unprecedented times, and safety is and will always be our main concern with all of our guests. We understand that you are feeling concerned with travel and possibly considering cancelling your up-incoming travel plans.

Please rest assured that your Lighthouse will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Presently, when cancelations come in we have been blocking three full days between bookings to ensure no virus can be spread to others, as an extra layer of protection on top of sanitized cleaning.

We also ask that you check with the Nova Scotia Government site for updates on travel. Unfortunately we can’t add website addresses to this form. It’s always a great idea to buy extra travel insurance for flight/accommodations to protect your vacation.

Please read before booking: Our policy with Airbnb although strict, we do refund if we can rebook with another guests. However the best protection for your vacation investment in case you do need to cancel is to buy extra travel insurance.

We thank you for your understanding and hope everyone is keeping safe.

Stay at one of the most famous addresses in Canada, the Cabot Trail and at our decommissioned lighthouse. We started renovations in June 2018 and we have completed our first stage in time to open in August 2018. Every year we tackle a few more projects, in the fall 2018 we installed a new red metal roof, it looks amazing! In 2019 we enhanced the interior with shiplap walls, new kitchen floor, new storm door, moved and added a new wood stove to a center location and installed new trim work, keeping the historical Lighthouse in mind with every detail.

This lighthouse has so much history. Follow us on Facebook, lighthouse on the Bay and watch our progress. The lighthouse is best suited for 2 guests. It’s super cozy with a king bed (Casper mattress) in the bedroom, and we do have a sofa bed in the living-room space. Our lighthouse is over 100 years old, so with this comes all of its unique features. We love our lighthouse and the natural surroundings, please ask if you have any questions prior to booking.

Wake up to the ocean waves, have coffee on your front deck, watch the local fisherman haul up their traps, and take a walk on the beach.

Walk our natural beach at low tide, find all kinds of treasures, sea glass and pottery that have washed up. Walk down the beach and find a secluded sandy beach area, bring a chair, beach towel, a little picnic and enjoy.

We can help plan your stay, make local suggestions for restaurants, hire a fishing guide, or even provide a lobster dinner.

The Gaelic College is just a story drive and Baddeck is 20 minutes.

Cape Breton is beautiful. Our lighthouse is located on the bay in St. Anns, where you will see the most spectacular views, and the stars at night are the brightest you will see. Sometimes living in beautiful areas comes with some small inconveniences. Because of our mountains and valleys we can have some areas of the island with poor cell service, including St. Anns.

On occasion we might get a local guest come and visit, some of our squirrels try to come in to save food for winter, they never come inside but you might hear them on the roof or the outside wall by the bathroom. Our closest grocery store is about 20 minutes away, in Baddeck. Yes, another inconvenience, but the only traffic jam will be the locals kayaking out front, some seals swimming by or eagles soaring by.

Guest access
You will be able to enjoy the entire lighthouse. Quite, private and spectacular views of St. Anns Bay.

We have some other great amenities on site. On water conditions, we will set up our tandem kayak for your use on the bay. We do require acknowledgement that you are an experienced kayaker before head out in the water, it’s always safety first.

Other things to note
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BOOK

Our lighthouse is very special and we ask you to be respectful of the property and treat it like your home. No parties and only registered guests allowed.

The lighthouse is a great getaway for couples. It’s suitable for 2 people.
The lighthouse is situated on a bluff and there are steep stairs that leads to the top of the lighthouse. For this reason we have a very strict policy on no children. Please understand safety is our main concern so unfortunately we will not be able to accommodate any requests.

Photos. If you don’t have a photo posted on your profile, we ask that after your booking has been approved that you do send us a photo. This is only to assure you are the guest booking and checking in. Airbnb do not allow third party bookings and there would be insurance issues for us.

We ask you to be respectful as this is a historical building. Please tidy up after yourselves. There will be a $250.00 cleaning fee added through Airbnb if the lighthouse if left in an unacceptable condition.

You are in a rural area, you might see some wild animals, small snakes, deer, fox, squirrels, just the normal small creatures one would find with any outdoor park setting. We have one a few occasions seen a small bear, a lynx and a bobcat.

The road the leads to the lighthouse is maintained by the municipality. It is a natural gravel/dirt road. It can be bumpy so please take the road slow and be aware of oncoming vehicles.

Cell service can be limited as you are surrounded by mountains.

Very rare occasions we will have a power outage due to inclement weather. We do not have a generator. We do have a great wood burning stove and oil lamps to provide light.

The lobster season is from mid-May to Mid-July. The fisherman will be out in the bay early to collect the lobster and reset their traps.

Canoe and kayak are complimentary. They will be available to enjoy on request and only when weather permits.

Coffee and tea will be provided.
Shampoo and conditioner provided.
We do leave complimentary treats for our guests.

The Lighthouse is over 100 years old. We cannot guarantee that the odd insect or spider might be found. The lighthouse is inspected after it is cleaned, however this might be a few days prior to your check in.

No smoking in the lighthouse or on the decks.

We will send along some useful links to local attractions, hiking trails, local restaurants and things to do about a week before your arrival.

Please keep in mind that many stores are closed, or only open for limited times/days and many restaurants are only offering takeout due to COVID-19. Please check the websites for these businesses or parks/trails ahead to make sure of the hours of operation.

If you have any questions or special requests please don’t hesitate to message us. Thanks in advance for considering us your vacation destination.

We have two Boston Terriers that live with us. Edward and Macy.

There is so much to see and do in St Ann's and all across Cape Breton. Locals love our varied cultures, and delight in the out-of-doors, as well. So many hiking trails, waterfalls, artisan shops, local restaurants, museums and music venues all across the island.

The out-of-doors will always offer opportunities to enjoy our views and active lifestyles.

Grab your fishing rod and head out along the streams and rivers that flow through our woods. Or try your hand at fishing for mackerel on the Jersey Cove shore. You can even dig for clams in the bay. In summer, take a boat tour out to the Bird Islands, nesting grounds of the Atlantic Puffin. Or kayak in the world-famous North River.

St Ann's Bay is also famous for our world-class artisans. From May through November, you will find these folk busy creating stunning pieces in all kinds of media — you're welcome to watch them work. In the off-seasons, call ahead. In summer, plan to take a couple of days to visit every one!

We are newly retired, and just recently purchased a lighthouse in St. Anns, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. It’s been a lifelong dream to live in one. We love to travel and meet the local people and listen to their story. We have been fortunate to have traveled throughout the years, as far away as Bali, Thailand, Italy, Germany, Spain and China. Been to most provinces within Canada and to most states in the USA. We purchashed the Lighthouse with the intention to share this beautiful place with others that Love lighthouses. There is actually a large following of people that love them as much as I do. We just started our Airbnb business in August 2018 and we have been having great results. On the off-season we plan to continue to travel and explore this amazing world we live in using Airbnb along the way. Being owners of an Airbnb home we understand the work that goes into hosting and maintaining one. So we treat every home we rent with the same courtesy and respect.

During your stay
With CoVID-19 our guest interaction has changed. We love meeting our guests and we love to hear how their day was exploring our beautiful Island, many times over a glass of wine.
Unfortunately our guest interaction has to be limited as we do have a family member that has a compromised health condition.
We are still just a message away and are here to help with any questions.

If you have a photo ID already posted that’s great, if not please take a few moments to upload a picture of the guest (you) checking in. This helps us with knowing who is coming for our safety and yours and also the person booking the trip must be the guest. No third party bookings for insurance reasons. We never ask prior to approving a booking, but we do ask at least a week prior to coming for a photo.
