Guest access

Guests have access to a sitting room with wood burner which leads through to a conservatory - a window on the world of the lake, mountains and wildlife. Star gazing at night is amazing! A large garden has several separate seating areas to allow guests their own secret space. Lie on the sofas - or the lawn in summer - and look up.....

Interaction with guests

Interaction with guests is as little or as much as is desired. Peace and privacy are cherished. Sharing knowledge of the local area and suggested itineraries as required. Guests eat together in a large old converted Pantry. Special evening dinners can be provided in the private dining room by arrangement. Sometimes the guests dine together and a house party develops.

Other things to note

Residential courses in Art, Creative Writing, Personal Development, Yoga and Meditation, and Singing take place in the summer. At these times Bed & Breakfast availability is restricted.

We have other bedrooms if more than two guests want to book.

Our water supply is from the surrounding mountains and we have our own water purification system. In the Summer of 2014 our vegetable garden was reinstated!

The property was in an excellent location; secluded and perfect for exploring Ennerdale and Buttermere areas. Very unlike the busier more popular areas of the Lake District. Nina was an excellent host providing a veritable selection of breakfast options and forthcoming with knowledge of the surrounding area.

Fantastic location if you want to get away from it all. Nina was a very helpful host with lots of tips about walks and the local area.

Warm and friendly welcome, high quality room furnishings with modern ensuite. Fabulous location with stunning outlook. Immediate access to lake and hills for walking in one of quieter corners of the Lakes. Delicious freshly prepared breakfasts. An excellent place for a get away!

This is my first experience with AIRBNB and for a first timer, I was very lucky to come across this place. The location was just what I needed to get away from it all. When Nina says there is very limited mobile service, she wasn't kidding. But it was so nice not to constantly check your phone for messages. You have the option to go to the local pub for dinner, but I would highly recommend staying for dinner. The food (which was all freshly cooked) was outstanding, but what I really liked was that you eat with the other guest, like Nina says can turn into a very enjoyable dinner party. Breakfast is exactly the same and I highly recommend Nina's muesli which will see you going for the whole day with out the need for her pack lunches. Lunch and dinner are extra, but well worth it. Also new to going on a walking holiday, Nina advise (and please follow her advise which I didn't and nearly got lost) was perfect, she knows the area very well and will tell you the best places to go whether walking or riding a bike. The other thing about this place is its not touristy at all. You have people doing the coast to coast tour and the locals, that's it. And if you didn't want to go for a walk, you could just sit the Nina conservatory with a cup of tea, glass of wine (whatever your fancy) and read a book or loose yourself in the stunning view. I loved it here and I am planning on coming back in a few months time to explore the rest of this place. There is so much more I would love to say, but only have three words to say it in, so I will sum up by saying this was a fantastic holiday and would recommend it to anyone. Thank you so much Nina :-)

Good directions ensured we had a trouble-free journey to Beckfoot. Once we arrived we were welcomed like old friends and Nina made sure that every aspect of our stay was a pleasure. The lakeside setting is breath-taking, the house and interiors are lovely, the beds super-comfortable and the breakfasts generous and delicious. Didn't want to leave and definitely want to go back.

An over the top experience at Beckfoot after a long week of work in London. The nearby trails are steep to long rolling ridges that are delightful to traverse. Highly recommend you sample Nina's cooking. Delicious! Breakfast is included and we added dinners and lunches as well. My favorite aspect of the stay: Ms. Sooty, the lover girl Cockapoo. Nina helped us with every aspect of our stay and we don't have enough high praise.

Response from Nina:
Hi Wendy and Jorge, Thank you for your review - it was a pleasure to have you and Jorge here. Cocktails - a good thought! I don't have a liquor licence so they'll have to be on the house!! Best wishes Nina and Sooty

I have travelled the World extensively and have a high standard of how I would like guests to experience their stay at Beckfoot.

My work has taken me from Moscow to Milan filming European TV commercials and Cape Town to Chennai as a visual effects director creating 'Matrix' style stunts. I really enjoyed my time working in Bollywood, Mumbai with Shah Rukh Khan on a feature film called Main Hoon Na. I retired from the media industry and my focus is now hosting guests from all over the World and sharing stories of our lives!

Ennerdale Water is a very quiet part of the Lake District - ideal for a relaxing getaway or stop off for those doing the Coast to Coast. Beckfoot, a Georgian farmhouse, is a base for Residential Courses as well as Bed & Breakfast to walkers and visitors who really want to find themselves in the heart of the Lake District. The house is furnished with a mix of antiques and unusual finds.
Good cuisine is important to me - healthy, fresh, locally sourced ingredients are used. Vegetarian, gluten and/or lactose free are available on request.
