Neighbourhood highlights

Waarland is located between Schagen, Heerhugowaard and Alkmaar and is close to the seaside resorts Callantsoog (22 km) and Petten (19 km) and many other beautiful places.
Amsterdam city center is 55 km away

Since 2010, an indoor tropical butterfly garden, Vlindado butterfly garden, has been located in the village of Waarland, one of the largest in this area in Europe.

To the east of Waarland are a number of nature reserves such as De Boomerwaal aan de Boomervaart and De Drasse Dijkvoet. On the west side are the Woudmeer and Speket and Speketpolder. New nature area was created in this area as a result of the implementation of a water storage project of the municipality of Harenkarspel. Hiking trails run through the nature reserves.

Schagen
As the largest center in a region full of small villages and hamlets, Schagen is an important regional center. Not only the market on Thursday attracts a large audience; especially the many festivals that are organized throughout the year in the city attract viewers.

The already mentioned West Frisian Folklore is on the Schager Markt every Thursday in the summer months. Various old crafts are exhibited and recreated in the center. The highlight is the Grand Parade that runs across the market area in the morning. Old carriages, gentlemen and ladies in various costumes and of course music make this parade a popular attraction that, especially in good weather, attracts many tourists to Schagen.

Alkmaar
Alkmaar has a historic center with 399 national monuments and 700 municipal monuments.[1] The city is known as "the cheese city". From the beginning of April to the end of September, a traditional cheese market is still held weekly.[2] A resident of Alkmaar is called an Alkmaarder, but is also called cheese head in vernacular.
