The space

Cozy one bedroom/loft cabin. Fully furnished kitchen for your convenience. Breakfast offered at $8 per person, with advanced request please. Perfect for a couple with up to 2 children, offering great comfort for your Sacred Valley visit. 20 minutes from Ollantaytambo train station to Machupicchu and 1 hour drive to Cusco. In the middle of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. (we also offer a riverside apartment in separate listing).
Enjoy the peace and energy of the Sacred Valley of the Incas in this secluded yet centrally located property in Urubamba, along the Vilcanota river where our biggest delight is nature, flowers, country life and the best of comfort offered for your stay. Breakfast is included every morning and we also offer other meals separately upon request. Our property has ample gardens, woods, riverside, all offered for your enjoyment. We also have a nice 6 person jacuzzi spa, offered at an additional price, upon reservation. Taxi service available for pick up and transport to all places of interest. Bus and colectivos, as well as mototaxis transit on the main road, 10 min walking distance from our place.
I strongly recommend to take our taxi driver friends the first time you come, since we are in the countryside. Some drivers from Cusco have gotten lost or had problems to arrive. I've compared prices and our friends are much less expensive than the Cusco drivers.

Guest access

Easy to access by taxi, mototaxi, or walking. From Urubamba: just as you see Alhambra Restaurant sign, pass it and make a left on the sign to VILLA URUBAMBA. Make a right at the end of the road. About 5 blocks distance you will see your very first possible left turn, just after the little stores of Rumichaca Baja and Iglesia Asunción. Go down the block to the end (towards the rail track and river) and will get to our green metal door with a hanging wood sign: Wilkamayu. Ring the bells , please.
picnic areas, fire pit, walk to the local trout farm. You can walk to the Alhambra or Tunupa restaurants to enjoy a nice Andean buffet for lunch in a very nice location in the countryside, or to several very good gourmet or local food restaurants like Huacatay, PacaPaca, Kaia, Mar y Cielo, Buen Gusto. Ah! La Fontana Pizza! So Italian in Urubamba! Perhaps a super good carrot cake and a Jamaican flower tea at Cielito Lindo cafe? .... Many hotels, open their doors to restaurants and bars., as well as shows, like the Sol y. Luna. Taxi service available by phone. We can help arrange your taxis pickup. Horse ride? will gladly pick you up and take you for an unforgettable journey of the Salt Pools-Maras/Moray, river rafting and hiking, etc. Ask us!
I strongly recommend totake the service of our taxi friends for your arrival, as some drivers get lost at night, or simply don't know the areas of the countryside in Urubamba. The price may even be lower than a taxi from Cusco airport.

Interaction with guests

We care about your privacy and comofort. You will be greeted by our staff who will make you familiar with the property and welcome you with a hot cup of Coca tea upon arrival. We will make ourselves available as needed and will be happy to share our knowledge and be of help in any way possible for your visit. There will always be someone on site for help.

Other things to note

Urubamba is located in the center of the Sacred Valley of the Incas Minutes away to all places of interest and a couple of hours by train to Machupicchu/Aguas Calientes train station. At 2,875 meters of altitude, 600+ meters lower than the city of Cusco. A perfect climate to enjoy all year round. Bring sunblock and mosquito repellent, as it may be of help at times..:) Rain ponchos (light ones) are very handy during rain season and hiking shoes/boots are a must, if you are planning to walk or hike. Dress in "layers", as you may experience all 4 seasons in "one day"!!

Mariela's place is a dream come true, I think we took about 100 pictures of the place in our 2 day stay. Every last detail is stunning, every need met and every amenity provided. Each cabin has a gorgeous fire pit outside and a fireplace inside. Charito, who tends to the place in Mariela's absence is an amazing host who took care of us like family. Our little 8 month old daughter enjoyed playing with the daughter of Charito's friend who helps her maintain the property, and loved the dogs and birds as she was probably missing our dog back in Arequipa. The garden is stunning, the view of Urubamba river is beautiful and the beds were the most comfortable in our travels in Peru so far. Mariela, despite being in France, was always reachable via messaging and helpful throughout. Wilber, who provided pick-ups and drop offs on many occasions made some amazing recommendations for restaurants and took us to a woman's textile collective on our way back to Cusco that was so amazing we happily blew our budget right up. We will not only return but will probably plan an entire trip around visiting again. Thanks for everything Charito, Wilber and Mariela!

We had such a wonderful time at Mariela's place. Mariela takes care of you as if you were part of her family. The place is gorgeous. Our kids didn't want to leave and we stayed much longer than we had first planned. I strongly recommand this place to discover the sacred valley.

We absolutely loved our stay at Mariela's! It was comfortable, clean & simply lovely. The gardens and the birds are beautiful. Wandering the grounds with the German Shepherds Simbo & Miskie, we felt totally at home! Breakfast by Rosita were delicious and delivered with lots of smiles! We will recommend this oasis to any friends traveling to Peru!

Absolutely lovely cottage in the countryside set in a beautiful garden near the Urubamba river. A perfect getaway for those who want some peace and quiet while traveling to the Sacred Valley. Mariela is an fantastic host and very communicative and goes out of her way to help. The cottage itself is well-equipped, fast wifi, good hot water, and very comfortable. The location is a bit problematic and requires taking a taxi to get anywhere. The area outside the complex is not walkable, almost 4KM to Urubamba. Other than that, this is a nice stay for your journey through the sacred valley.

We arrived exhausted and sick from the altitude, and Mariela and her staff catered to assisting us right away by preparing or room for us to rest and preparing special tea with herbs from her garden. The gardens of flowers, river walk, firepits, and trees within her secure walls are just astoundingly beautiful. We are very limited in our Spanish, so Mariela communicated with an amazing team of drivers to safely take us to markets and many of the nearby destinations. They made us feel welcome, safe, and comfortable while facilitating adventures in our vacation of a lifetime. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast offered, and fell in love with the grounds keeper and manager-both beyond helpful. We just love this place and these people. We're forever grateful!

Mariela's place was beautiful and is perfect if you want the real Sacred Valley experience! She was very responsive to any questions I had and had great helpers on-site to help with any questions you might have. Just take note that the property is located a couple of dirt roads away from the town's main road so just be sure you have the exact location plotted on your map before leaving. Overall I highly recommend!
