Semi-detached part of an ancient farmhouse with separate entrance, recently refurbished and fully equipped. No neighbouring houses. Two floors, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, each with walk-in rain shower, large living area, cozy dining corner, complete kitchen. Splendid view over the vineyards of Langhe-Roero, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014. Close to Alba, Barolo and everything else you may want to visit while being in the area, including fine restaurants and famous wine producers.

The space
Cascina Talpa belongs to the municipality of Roddino, a small village located on the border between Alte Langhe, where mostly hazelnuts are grown, and Basse Langhe, one of the world’s most famous wine growing areas known for Barbera, Nebbiolo and of course Barolo wines.

"Talpa" is Italian and means mole. The house has been bearing this name for decades, since it sits on a small hill looking a bit like a molehill. Around the house, you find nothing but vineyards of which 2.6 hectares belong to the property.

The fully independent guest part extends on two floors. On the ground floor, there is a large living area with two glazed doors, almost ceiling-high, facing a stone terrace and a splendid lawn. A full kitchen, a cosy dining corner and a bathroom with walk-in rain shower complete the ground floor.

A central staircase leads up to the first floor, where there are two inviting bedrooms and another bathroom with walk-in rain shower and natural light.

Cascina Talpa is ideal for two to four people: one or two couples, a family, a group of friends. Please note that smaller children might be unsafe because the stairs are not protected by a safety gate.

Obviously, the house is well heated in cooler days and scrupulous cleanliness as well as thorough disinfection before each rental are guaranteed.

Guest access
Terrace and lawn in front of the house invite you to sit or play. We provide deck chairs and outdoor furniture, so that you can relax and enjoy your meals outside. You will also find everything you need for playing badminton, boule or crocket.

Washing machine and dryer (both shared with the owner) are in a separate room accessible from the ground floor and may be used at no extra cost.

There is no swimming pool on the premises. The nearest public pool is in Monforte d’Alba, about six kilometres from the house.

Other things to note
Entrance to the house is fully automated. Download of at least one app is required.

Rents are higher, when you are more than two persons, and lower, when you stay for a week or longer.

On request, one or two additional rooms with another fully-equipped bathroom can be rented by larger groups. These two rooms are not available on their own.

Location

Roddino, Piemonte, Italy

The house is located in a very hilly landscape dotted with castles on every other hilltop. It is a good place for hiking, but also for cycling, if you are in good shape and have your bicycle with you.

Monforte d’Alba is closest for ATM and food (small super market, bakery, wine shop), weekly market is held on Mondays. Barolo is at 10 km, Alba at 20 km. Torino is at 80 km, Savona and the Mediterranean Sea at 100 km. There are even two shopping outlets not too far away.

Italian opening hours are not easy to understand. Generally, shops are closed on Mondays and every day between 12.30h and approx. 15.30h. Because of Monday’s market day, in Monforte d’Alba shops close on Tuesday.

Most restaurants are closed one day of the week. It is best to call them prior to your visit to make sure that they are open. You will find a large collection of business cards from restaurants of all kinds on the book-shelf in your living room.

My life companion Helen and myself, we are both Swiss and live in Zurich, Switzerland. Cascina Talpa is our second home, where we try to be as much as we can. We love Italy (at least most of it), we like traveling, good food, books, music, movies and the theatre. We also play a little tennis. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you as our guests in our most wonderful Italian place!

During your stay
When in Italy, we live next door in our own semi-detached part of Cascina Talpa. But many times, we are away, so there is a good chance that you might have the property all for yourself. When present, we are pleased to assist you in every way we can. We speak fluent English, German, French. And Italian, ovviamente :-)

A friendly local family is looking after the house, when we are not here. They are at your disposal for emergencies of all kind. They speak Italian and some English.
